Good morning all,

I have just received and email from a "recruitment consultant" at one of the many agencies that I registered with at least three years ago. I have C&P'd it below, the only thing that I have edited it my name, I have also deleted her name:

Hello Phoenix,

I have come across your CV and would really like to talk to you about different vaccines I have at the moment.

Can you please let me know a good time to give you a call ?

Kind regards

Now, either she thinks that I have been out of work so long that I am prepared to act as a guinea pig for some sort of medical trial confused, or she doesn't bother to cast an eye over an email before she sends it, or she has a serious spelling problem!

You can call me old fashioned, pedantic or whatever, but is it too much to expect that someone in her role should be able to spell "vacancies" ?

I wonder if she might also be contacting people to discuss various "pistons" that are available?

Reply asking what the vaccines protect you against, and about suitable pistons for a non-driver.

On second thoughts - will you be using that agency again? Perhgaps better not to piss her off.

Elegran I'm rather hoping that I will be staying where I am, job wise!

Being a polite person, I did reply thanking her for getting in touch, but that I am currently in work and not actively seeking another role.

However I couldn't resist adding a ps! grin

Only in jest but 'I told you so'! These agencies are rubbish unless you get one which is small and run by the owner. They are of course a necessary evil. Never let them touch your CV, they do terrible things to them and made you look stupid!

phoenix my first thought was maybe she thought that you were a medical rep and would be able to go out and about extolling the new vaccines on the market. My first thought was definitely not vacancies but maybe I am thick!

Dare I confess that when I read the op I didn't notice the error blush
I think it's like those things you get on FB where there is only half a word but your brain knows what should be there. IYSWIM.

Nina I did the same as you! blush

Perhaps she has euthanasia in mind for us older folk or she has a wayward Kindle!

There was another "unfortunate" spelling error that comes to mind!

In another job I was helping a young (18) lad to compose an email. I included the phrase "I hope that this has not caused any inconvenience". He decided to re-do it after consulting his immediate line manager. It was slightly re-jigged, but "inconvenience" was kept in.
Unfortunately he couldn't spell, so the red line came up. He went into the drop down options and clicked on the first word on the list.

The final email was sent with the sincere hope that the recipient was not caused any incontinence shock grin

I used to work for a students' union at a university. Many years ago the students were running a protest campaign against something or other and I was tasked to type up a letter onto a stencil (or 'skin' as they were known), so that this could be printed off by the hundred, or thousand on a Gestetner rotary duplicating printer. The letter was a petition, addressed to the Vice Chancellor, and was to be handed out to students who would then add their signature and deliver it to the VC's office, hopefully deluging him with thousands of the things.
It was impressed on me just how important it was that this letter should be absolutely word perfect, not even the tiniest error. I typed as carefully as I could, scrutinising the skin several times once finished before committing it to the printer.
I ran off about 200 and one of the exec committee members grabbed them and ran outside to pass them out. Five minutes later he rushed back looking horror struck and told me to stop the print run. Yes, I had made sure the body of the letter was absolutely perfect. But I hadn't checked the salutation, which read, "Dead Dr Brown". ( not his real name )
Oops blush
