Downstairs toilet

I thought of that merlot and of someone I know whose cupboard loo is child sized and no adult can get in or out!
We are lucky to have a large downstairs loo and two upstairs. We used to live in a three storey house with just one bathroom on the top floor - I always seemed to be desperate just as someone settled down for a soak in the bath. It was then I saw the practicality of my childhood home where the loo was in a separate room to the bath and sink. Can't remember if we washed our hands afterwards though?

Our old terraced house has a downstairs bathroom/toilet, whichis great all day, but in the night how I wish for an upstairs toilet! Unfortunately, even if we could afford it, there isn`t the room to create one upstairs.

Charleygirl thanks for reminding me about stairlifts I'd forgotten about them if one could be fitted in our small house it could work..

My last house had a toilet in the garage
At present my standard 3 bedroom house has one toilet in the bathroom......ok for just DH and me.
With overnight guests we manage.

This Christmas dss is coming for one week with ddil and dgs who will be 12 months.
Also.....ds has just let us know he hopes to get home (long haul) this Christmas for 2 weeks with ddil and dgs who will be 2.3 months.
This is fabulous.

Now.... how we all manage the ablutions is another matter.

My understairs cupboard is not high enough to use as a cloakroom so I have to make do with the two upstairs bathrooms.

We had our kitchen extended and had a toilet included in the build. I was very apprehensive but the architect assured me it would work. ( I had a dream of being sat on the loo in the middle of the kitchen) Anyway 4 years later and I think it's brilliant though I know not everyone likes the idea

We live in a bungalow but we still call the 'spare' loo the downstairs loo

Very handy to have two when you both come back from a day out and are bursting.

I really appreciated my downstairs loo a few years ago when I was having a new bathroom fitted. I did not have access to the loo upstairs for days and could not see myself using a bucket. where would it be emptied?!

The tiler took forever so I found myself having to come downstairs during the night =I was so glad that I had the downstairs loo.

It's great when the Grandchildren visit straight in there from the garden. Saves a dash up the stairs ��

We had our bathroom re-done from scratch last November, and for a few days it was very embarassing having to keep asking the plumber if we could use the toilet............especially when he`d taken it out in preparation for fitting the new one, and had to keep putting it back in situ for our use for those few minutes! Another toilet would have been wonderful.

We are considering down sizing but we will then end up with only one loo instead of our present 3 because bungalows in the main only have one loo. It sounds silly but somehow we are going to have to find some where with 2 toilets. Why this feature hasn't been incorporated in modern homes since the war I'll never know. It is not a luxury in my opinion. Thanks for the information on Saniflow I will google it. We have been told not to leave our house but put in stair lift instead. But even though Stannah stair lifts are very versatile it would feel like turning my lovely house in to 'an old folks home' My only experience of maserators was at an hotel where when you flushed the loo 'stuff' came up through the shower drain, yuk. Stannah have a very nice show room in Andover and will demonstrate 4 different types. The sales man was most helpful and they can make a stair lift for almost any situation. The reason I know now we should downsize is because I don't want to get to a situation where I can't keep my house and garden looking as I want them and I have to get other people to do it for us. I shall hate doing it but it makes sense to us.

Sarah, plenty of bungalows have several loos these days, we have two, and we're considering a third but may not go ahead . you can always have a small en suite bathroom put into a double bedroom.

Crikey, roses, why would you need three loos in a bungalow...?

Oh alright then....... An en suite for guests as we seem to have a lot of visitors( we spoil them really.) Probably won't go ahead though, a bit too costly.

I love that episode of Mrs Brown. Our house used to be two flats and the downstairs loo is just like hers!

When we moved here the downstairs loo had just a basin and loo in a room which was eight feet square so it was like sitting in a cave and all noises were amplified. ?
