Cross generational friendship (West Wales)

This is a tricky one isn't it. If you have been in Wales for three years already, maybe you know some neighbours you can encourage your children to chat to; often in our library there are different ages of people volunteering there - another place where your little one would meet older folk. It's only a year until school, and then you will be busy busy, and maybe there will be older people volunteering hearing readers in the class (I do this, and love having a chat with the little ones in reception).
When my children were little, I did all my shopping in the local village shops (no big supermarkets on our island at the time) and they would always smile and say hello to the bunch of old men sitting on the long bench outside the little spar shop. Nowadays I guess this would be frowned upon, but I still think it is good manners to smile and say hello to people.
Perhaps if you got in touch with Age UK to offer to shop or visit an older person, you could involve your children in a visit too?
