Slow clothes

One of the Windsors wore clothes about 30 years old last week I think at Ascot. There was a discussion on the radio about how we should stop buying cheap stuff and be prepared to pay more for our clothes like our parents and grandparents and then have a lot fewer but that will last for ever.

I must admit I am not a follower of fashion and do go for classic stuff that lasts as long as I can make them. I do have stuff from the 80's in my wardrobe that I wear still, especially the posh stuff.

The yellow coat makes me think of the sort of overall that used to be worn by the ladies that worked in our local Co-op in the 60's - and the hat.....awful! Like her shoes, though. smile

Good on her, I say. Her clothes might or might not look awful (I admit that I haven't even bothered to look at photos of her), but as she is clearly not interested in fashion, what's to say that she would look any better in anything newly bought? I quite admire her down-to-earth thriftiness and total disdain of the fashion police!

So do I, but have to say I agree with ninathenana in that the hairstyle does need updating. It's really frumpy. (Not that Anne cares, of course! grin)

You can only keep and re wear clothes that are very expensive, or have them revamped etc.Today, clothes are made cheaply for the mass market and not designed to last.
a relative of mine used to be a police minder for princess Anne, and said she swore like a trooper.

Princess Anne really doesn't pander to either the press or the public and I admire her for it. From refusing royal titles for her children to recycling her clothes and keeping the same hairstyle she's demonstrated that she's not going to be influenced by what others think.
I have good reason to know that she has a warm and caring side to her that is not for public show. I like her.

Mind you Princess Anne's "hair style" is dire. It does her no favours. Nor does the colour scheme of yellow.
Very few people indeed look good in yellow you really need just the right skin tones

I am fine with the idea of wearing still servicable clothes but they did not look good at the time.

She could do with getting a decent hairstyle and some "wear colours that suit you" advice.

The Queen has kept the same hairstyle too.Nobody has told Anne that her hairstyle doesn't suit her, or maybe they have and got short shrift!

If I remember rightly Anne had really hard to manage hair- wavy and a bit wild until someone gave her the idea of wearing it up. I think it suits her, it's probably easy to manage and doesn't require a lot of upkeep. I think the coat is fine. Practical and smart for the races especially with the changeable weather. Colour is difficult, we must all have photos where we look at an outfit and think 'it wasn't really that colour'.

I tend to" cut my coat according to my cloth",whilst I would love designer and classic clothes my budget just about stretches to supermarket chic......love the idea of PA swearing like a trooper grin

Ana Mon 22-Jun-15 20:09:47

I think I'll stick with 'fast clothes'! grin

downtoearth Mon 22-Jun-15 20:35:40

I will second that Ana may be the body will keep up with the clothes grin, must admith I cannot bring myself to look at frumpy clothes..and the 16year fashion police on my case in case I show her up grin

Princess Ann is someone who has always done her own thing, which is admirable. She looks at her best and most comfortable in riding geer imo. It's up to her what she wears and how she has her hair done, but I confess I'm with Nelliemoser in wishing Ann would get a decent hair cut and some 'wear what suits you' advice. I don't want to sound too superficial here but she's a handsome woman and there are some good clothes around that she could both afford and look good in.
