public loos - sit or crouch?

Another thread has set me wondering about this. When I use public loos for a wee, I never sit on the seat, but crouch above it. That's what my mum taught me to do when I was a child because the seats are often dirty, so I've always done it. Do many of you do the same, or do most people sit down?

I should add that on the very rare occasion that I have to use a public toilet for more than a wee, I will cover the seat with toilet paper before sitting. Not easy, as sometimes it flies off onto the floor just as I'm lowering myself onto it!

Is it just me?

I use a tissue to press the button at the road crossing.

No!!! My God, it's all coming out now.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 19-Jun-15 19:44:26

I use my knuckle. grin

I wonder how we have all managed to survive to be grandparents?

Why is (nearly) everyone so paranoid about 'germs'? confused

They aren't absorbed into your bloodstream via your fingertips, for goodness sake!

Don't touch your eyes, nose or mouth with fingers you fear might have been contaminated until you can wash your hands. Simples! hmm

I want to know if that lot at HQ sit or hover.

Elegran - but I want the best of health along the way.

You know what ! I never realized what a dangerous world we live in till I joined this forum shock

I like the "go Girl" device! I have a SheWee because when we are travelling we are sometimes in places where any public loo would be a treat, but since I never wear dresses or skirts there's a lot of faffing around with trousers and a sheWee.
Will report back on GoGirl.

(I don't hover but have learned to check the state of the seat before descending.)

pompa Fri 19-Jun-15 20:56:05

OMG, just looked up "GO Girl" thought it was just a funky coloured funnel, been using it to fill wine bottles. confused

Ariadne Fri 19-Jun-15 21:10:28

How sad.

Maggiemaybe Fri 19-Jun-15 21:23:03

Give us a clue, Ariadne. grin

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 19-Jun-15 21:44:45

Mrs P can give it a rinse. Use it for it's proper purpose. (if she's prepared for a wet leg)

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 19-Jun-15 21:45:26

You can have it back for the wine after pomps

GrannyGear Fri 19-Jun-15 22:30:47

I too looked up "Go Girl" and found that Amazon were selling them, both new and used ones! This is certainly not something I would want to buy second-hand.
As someone else said it is really no more than a funnel - the problem is disposing of the pee afterwards.

Atqui Fri 19-Jun-15 22:35:08

Not mocking as it sounds a sensible idea , but giggling to myself imagining GNs practising the she wee , the bottle washing etc behind closed bathroom doors, hoping no one barges in !

Atqui Fri 19-Jun-15 22:36:19

granny gear ,my oh could by a job lot of silica gel.

Atqui Fri 19-Jun-15 22:36:41

You could I mean

katynana Sat 20-Jun-15 00:05:37

Haven't had such a good laugh in ages. How very true all your various experiences sound. To 'hover' or not to .'hover' that is the question. Obviously a large(ish) cork may prove to be the answer.

Anne58 Sat 20-Jun-15 01:05:52

jingl

No!!! My God, it's all coming out now

Whatever did you mean?!!

Anne58 Sat 20-Jun-15 01:21:55

katynana I rather think not.

pompa Sat 20-Jun-15 06:29:11

GG, "the problem is disposing of the pee afterwards" some of the homemade wine I have tasted could have been pee.

Also, just keep an eye out for all the bottles of discarded pee along motorway verges. Always assumed it was lorry drivers, but now I think the women may be involved.

NfkDumpling Sat 20-Jun-15 07:31:13

I didn't realise about the half full/empty bottles on motorway verges until DH told me. Can't stop looking for them now and counting how many. Is that OCD.

NfkDumpling Sat 20-Jun-15 07:36:23

And... Why are parents now only, it seems, instructing children to wash their hands after going to the loo? I was brought up thinking the other way around. ALWAYS was your hands before touching food or eating - then it doesn't matter how many dirty rails/handles/coins you've touched. It was also the reason for not completely peeling a banana and eating cakes and chocolate from their wrappers.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 20-Jun-15 09:55:12

Grannygear you don't exactly "dispose" of the pee. You just pee straight into a bush - like blokes to.

phoenix - the semi-neurotic confessions! What did you think I meant?! shock
