Monday's child…

…is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go.
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for its living.
But the child who is born on the Sabbath Day
Is bonny and blithe and good and gay.

Does this apply to you or anyone in your family? My pa – a Thursday's child – spent most of his professional life travelling all over the world. My sister – a Monday's child – was always considered staggeringly beautiful. I am a Friday's child and I think I have always tried to be generous, but there have been at least two men in my life who described me as the most unloving woman they ever knew.

Absentdaughter was born on the Sabbath Day and is amazing and lovely in many ways – but not all of them at the same time throughout her life so far. I can't remember/don't know the actual days of my grandchildren's birth days, except the most recent one. He was a Friday but as he is only six weeks old, it's hard to be sure how he is going to turn out.

I'm was born on a Wednesday absent but don't believe that I am full of woe! I'll think about the rest of my family. Actually , I can remember that DS 1 was born on a Thursday and has travelled a lot, living in Japan for 8 years. Looking at it another way, he has travelled far since his stroke and has made great strides towards a more 'normal' life.

You have really made me think about this.

My Grandmother was the most loving and giving person I've ever known as she was indeed born on a Friday.

I'm not sure I can make many of the others fit except perhaps my DD who, despite a terrific sense of humour and a ready laugh, is a born worrier. yes she is a Wednesday's child. grin

Falconbird Wed 03-Jun-15 07:55:36

I'm a Friday child and so was my husband. We were both loving and giving but I sometimes think this is not always a good trait because some people take advantage. confused

Marmight Wed 03-Jun-15 07:58:43

No, certainly doesn't apply to my family except, perhaps, me - I was born on a Wednesday sadwink

nightowl Wed 03-Jun-15 08:01:58

Another Wednesday's child here. My DM never tired of quoting that rhyme to me when I was a child, so I blame her; there is such a thing as a self fulfilling prophecy grin

I am a Tuesday's child. I wouldn't say I am full of grace, in any sense of the word. I am not terribly religious, and have two left feet. My DD is another Tuesday girl and is rather like me, lacking in grace. My DS was born on a Friday but is not very loving or giving. He has to be reminded about birthdays etc., and we are lucky if we ever receive a card from him! No! I don't think that rhyme has much to do with my family.

Brendawymms Wed 03-Jun-15 08:28:38

I'm a Monday child but have not a photogenic bone in my body. Always look like draculas grandmother so I'm not ' fair of face'.

loopylou Wed 03-Jun-15 08:30:09

Me too Brendawymms!

Lona Wed 03-Jun-15 08:31:23

I'm a Thursday's child but I don't like going far!
I've always thought of it as working my way through a lot of stuff before I turn my toes up.
Dd born on Saturday, works hard.
Ds born on Sunday, is certainly bonnie and blithe and good, but not gay.

Falconbird Wed 03-Jun-15 08:35:52

Lona grin

My eldest son was born on a Sunday and he is bonnie and blithe and good but also not gay except in the old meaning of the word in that he has a great sense of humor.

My Wednesday child can be very miserable and my Saturday's child is a really hard worker.

AshTree Wed 03-Jun-15 08:44:53

I'm a Tuesday's child and probably the most graceless person I know grin

Bellanonna Wed 03-Jun-15 09:02:08

Monday's child and fair of face definitely doesn't apply to me! DD1 born on a Saturday is very hardworking, always has been. DD2 was born on a Wednesday and is the funniest, , sunniest person I know. By the way, does anyone know where this rhyming adage comes from?

Sook Wed 03-Jun-15 09:02:12

I'm a Fridays child. Loving and giving smile Most of my close members of family have been born on a Friday too.

Nelliemoser Wed 03-Jun-15 09:03:24

I am a Friday child it might apply.

DS is a Sunday child he doesn't particularly fit the description he can be rather ascerbic but his heart is in the right place and he is a softie really.

My DD is a Wednesday child (by elective CS does that affect results?)
DD could could never be described as full of woe she was a very contented jolly child and adult a bit melodramatic at times but who cares.

DGS1 a Thursday too little to know yet but he likes being outside.

DGS2 a Monday he is just a little colicky poo machine at present. wink

Maggiemaybe Wed 03-Jun-15 09:25:24

My DD2 is the kindest person I know - Friday's child.
My DS is strikingly handsome - Monday's child.
DD1 and I are Sunday's children - I would love to say how perfect we are, but modesty forbids. grin

KatyK Wed 03-Jun-15 18:20:19

I am a Wednesday's child and have to admit being full of woe. blush

harrigran Wed 03-Jun-15 18:29:29

DD was born on a Thursday and has always travelled, her job has taken her all over the world but she made her first solo journey at 13 when she flew from Germany via Amsterdam. DS born on a Saturday and he works hard. I was born on the Sabbath and of course I am bonny and blithe and good and gay, well maybe not gay grin

apricot Wed 03-Jun-15 18:30:59

I never knew which day I was born on as my mother couldn't remember. Later in life I found on the internet that I was a Saturday's child. I could never forget the days and times when my children were born - Tuesday at 12.45am, Friday at 8pm, Wednesday at 8.45pm, Sunday at 10.10pm. None of them has any of the characteristics in the old rhyme.

Galen Wed 03-Jun-15 19:20:10

Sunday

Tegan Wed 03-Jun-15 19:24:44

...I think I was a Wednesday or a Thursday sad...

Tegan Wed 03-Jun-15 19:26:47

Seems it was a Tuesday smile.

annodomini Wed 03-Jun-15 19:36:23

Tuesday as were both my sons.

downtoearth Wed 03-Jun-15 19:50:39

I am a Monday child ...and lets be honest my face is not my fortune ,although I am fair skinned, grin DS,DD where both Thursday due to elective C sections and convenience of same surgeon,so hard to say,DGD was born on a Saturday and as yet not worked hard at anything except avoiding working hard grin..but hopefully that may change..

loopylou Wed 03-Jun-15 19:52:17

I googled mine apricot, just put in your date of birth.
