What's your most treasured possession?

And yes, my old family photographs are very precious to me. I have scanned many of them into the computer, and a lot of them are stored in Dropbox so there is a little bit of peace of mind there. I should get all of them scanned and into Dropbox, or even on Flickr now that the storage limit is so huge. One of the oldest photos I have is of my Great-Grandmother at 18 years of age, so that would be in 1877.

cholcolatepudding It made me realise that if anything happened to my DD, I would be inseparable from her pink rabbit. They have been together for over 40 years.

My most treasured possession must be the ship in a glass bottle that my Dad made when he was in the Merchant Navy - he made loads of these in various sizes but this (and a tiny one in a walnut shell, which I also have) are the only survivors - I would hate this to be lost and have bequeathed it to my youngest son who smells like my Dad! How weird is that? I lost it for a while when my Mother died and my sister got it but she gave it to me for my 50th birthday present - the best present I ever received. It also mended our relationship - I realised she did love me after all!!! Sentimental or what?

I have an autograph album which was my PGMs. It's long story but until 1995 I never knew my father had ever met her. I then spent about 6 months trying to track her down only to find she had died two yrs before aged 96.

Her second husband's niece gave my father lots of the paper's photos etc that my Gran had left.
This niece by marriage and my Grandmothers step niece (who knew and loved my Grandmother as her favourite aunt) filled in a lot more details about my PGM.
My Gran's mother had died when she was about 12 and she was said to have gone off the rails. My Gran was 18 and unmarried when my dad was born in 1915. She then made a disastrous marriage when she was about 21.
She must have run her family ragged with worry but she had been accepted back home when she left my dad with his foster parents many miles away from Liverpool.

The niece of her husband said that my Gran had admitted she had found it very hard to accept her stepmother, even though her step mum had gone out of her way to be caring. A desperate plight for any girl in the first world war era.
Her Stepmother's older sister had arranged for my Gran to live with her daughter in the Midlands before my Dad was born and arranged my Dad's foster placement in that area. He was extremely lucky to have had a brilliant foster family who brought him up to be a very hardworking and principled man.

Never having known this Grandmother I value the very small amount of information I do have. I don't know what I shall do with this album eventually. I can't see my daughter being interested.

I do not have any treasured possessions. I have lost too many people to worry about things---but I confees I would miss my computer !! And mobile !

A postcard , my grandson -now 23- went on a school trip when he was five, he bought it, wrote on it in pencil and gave it to me when I met him from school. He even wrote my address on it .

A white gold chain and pendant that DD designed herself and had made for my 60th birthday, it is an interwoven L and X with four diamonds to represent my family of four and a pink sapphire in the centre to represent the one GD we had at that time. It is absolutely unique.

My stash of old family photos, some going back to the 1920's, are very precious to me.

It was, until we were burgled, the 24 carat gold cross and chain that DH gave me as a wedding present. Now it is the locket with a lock of my gransdon's birth hair in one side and a lock of his second birthday hair in the other - one very dark, the other pale gold. Also some letters from my mum and dad, sent to me when we were abroad in the sixties. Just to see my father's beautiful handwriting brings tears to my eyes.

People you love

I don't have treasured possessions. I just have things. I could lose them all and wouldn't mind. You can always get more things, it is the people you live who are irreplaceable.

Oh yes, ninethenana, I'd forgotten the cards - I have a scrapbook for each DC with all the baby congrats cards and first birthday cards pasted in. I never kept later cards and now wish I had just added one per year, I also have all our engagement and wedding cards. But like yours, they're all in the loft, so they wouldn't be missed - I just couldn't bring myself to throw them in the bin, though.

My husbands signet ring with his initials on. He sadly passed away but he was so proud of that ring.

On a lighter note my collection of Beatrix Potter figures and two albums I collected for my grandchildren from birth to two years old. They love looking at them and see how they grew in those two years.

I too have had precious as apposed to valuable items stolen in a burglary.
He took my jewellery box containing my father's wedding ring and the silver locket my half-sister gave me when I was her bridesmaid aged 10. Fortunately the burglary was prior to loosing mum so I do have her rings and a few other bits.

I too have my DC's hospital bands and the labels put on the end of their cots and locks of hair. The cards I received when they were born and their birthday cards from when they were small. Oh, and not forgetting the cards sent to DH and I when we got married. I couldn't throw any of this away but as it's all in the attic I wouldn't really miss it.

my most treasured possession is a book , at the time it was an autobiography by the person.
But also being a racing cyclist and doing time trials I had brought the book , and found myself in a time trial in which the person was completing, and after the event once changed asked her to sign the book.
The person was the late and great cyclist Beryl Burton MBE.

I wear my mothers wedding rings.I admired them all my life and was so pleased she left them to me. They fit me perfectly. OH doesn't mind I were them.

My tiny tears, who is now nearly 49 years old and was given to me by my grandma on my second birthday, very very treasured. Also a plastic sugar canister which my auntie used to make me a cup of tea with when I visited her so is a cherished heirloom but means nothing to anyone else.

My grandmother's little pink gold wristwatch, which my mother gave me when I was 16. It no longer works. My DH had it cleaned and restored to full working order for my 50th birthday, but it stopped working again before long because the case has worn so thin and it got damp inside . But I still love it.
I still have the little wristbands that were fixed to my two DC's ankles at birth, their first baby teeth, each in an envelope and dated and a little lock of my DD's hair after a haircut when she was 3. Yes, I'm a sentimental old fool too Bellanonna

I suppose pets are "possessions" as well as members of our families so my treasures are two little dogs and a cat. All the objects I am fond of count for nothing compared to the three little furries who greet me every time I come through the door and sleep on my bed T night.

I can't think of anything that would devastate me to lose.
As already mentioned memories and good feelings matter most.

I do have a little hat belonging to my grandson who lives 5000 miles away and that my son sent to me when it was outgrown. It greatly touched me that my DS actually thought of doing this for me. I did have a romper suit worn by my son in a photograph taken on his first birthday but passed it to him to keep when he had his own son.

You should always take photos of treasured items as then if you lose them you can look at the photos. My father and grandfathers medals are amongst my most treasured possessions as they remind me of them and what they went through in their youth. My OH is a hoarder and would like to keep everything but has improved , e.g. He didn't want to part with a jumper which belonged to his dad, but took a photo of it and then was quite happy to give it to a charity shop.
