Essex Girls!

Since we are hijacking the prefect thread, I thought we should have one of our own.

I lived in Essex from about the age of 4 to 16, firstly in Tarpots and then in Hadleigh (1953 - 66 ish). Hadleigh was then a large village, but I understand it is now absorbed into a suburban sprawl. I went to the Sweyne School (there's posh!) under the headships of two perfectly potty people. I cannot say that I enjoyed it. I spent quite a bit of time in Southend where music lessons, our teenage social life and holiday jobs took place. I escaped to uni and subsequently a few work years in Birmingham, then - hooray! - the wonderful Welsh borders where we now live.

Then they built a new one next door to it. now that has gone, and the new central library is somewhere else entirely. Petra will know!

Yes, I think Plummers was probably mainly fabric, might have been household things too, not sure. Definitely fabric though cos I bought my wedding dress and veil fabric there.
I remember the old red brick library - didn't realise the one that replaced it has also gone now. I must be getting shock

Eleothan - we were born just round the corner from each other by the common. But it would seem from our profiles that we were not being born at exactly the same moment!

Mishap My parents and I moved to Wembley in around 1953/4, so your time and mine in Clapham probably didn't coincide.
