Language no longer PC

I am furious at the mo! my GS the one who has auburn hair who I have mentioned in earlier post, has been playing out in my close with his friend, they have been playing with a small soft sponge tennis ball, apparently to the garden of one of the houses, the house have little garden at the front no fence or bushes etc, they are about 4 feet in depth...the man from the house come out to tell them off (yes fair enough) but apparently he said to my GS "and don't eyeball me Ginger"!! I am furious as this man I am pretty sure is in the R.A.F but besides that he is an adult for goodness sake! was there any need to callmy GS that! that! it was bad enough he was made fun of the other week, which resulted in him having his hair cut really short so it wasn't as Auburn!! I really feel like confronting this so called man!

Three of my GCs are 'mixed race'. I heard recently that this is no longer PC, but they and DD didn't know! Apparently we now have to talk of 'dual heritage'. Of course there will be some for whom triple or quadruple heritage would be more appropriate, it could get complicated!

It is horrifying in this day and age that such superstions still surface in certain communities.

Changing the subject from Gingas ,when I was teaching in primary school, the children fell about sniggering when I used the word 'knob' as in door knob; and be careful when reading Michael Morpurgo's 'Why the Whales Came ' as there are quite a few shags ( as in sea birds ) in the Isles of Scilly , though that word was in common usage when I was a child.

Shysal My great neice is triple heritage. My neice was half British half Pakistani and her daughters husband was half Italian.

When her daughter, my Greatneice was born she had to be tested for a number of genetic conditions more prevalent in those ethnic groups. Sickle cell disease and Thalassaemia.

At least she will probably be at less risk of Cystic Fibrosis. which is largely a northern european trait.

I do regret losing the word gay as I think its old use describes something that is difficult to find in other words.

I have always been envious of those with red hair. It is the colour hair I have always wanted. As a toddler I had ginger hair, but as I grew the dark took over so that most of my like I have had dark brown hair with (natural) red highlights.

As soon as my hair goes white I am dying it bright egg-yoke red.

People who snear at those with red hair are just jealous

Flick how strange - we none of us know what each other looks like (unless we add a photo to our profile and make it visible to others), but I have subconsciously imagined you as having red hair. I have no idea why. Nor was I consciously aware that I had this image of you, not until I read your post about wanting red hair!

I have a glory hole under the stairs - a place where all sorts of"stuff" is trown, sorry carefully put away. When I told one of the next generation to look in the glory hole the other day they all fell about laughing. It means something TOTALLY different now and it certainly doesn't happen in my glory hole - there isn't room for one thing!!

Dotsmum apparently ''a happy ending'' has a different meaning to the one at the end of a story according to younger members of the family..
My GD also mixed race and on applying for PR for her S/S and the court always referred to dual heritage,we live in area where white is the predominant colour,and has often been blamed for things when she hasn't even been there,because she stands out and is easy to remember,a few years back a neighbour made the mistake of complaining about some stones being disturbed outside his house and made the very big mistake of referring to her to my face as the darkie..silly man got both barrels and retreated to lick his wounds 4 years later he still gives me a wide berth and a cringy smile by way of greeting..to make it worse she was actually staying at her granddads 150 miles away when said incident occurred..

My sil sometimes plays in a ceilidh band for weddings. He recently played at a same sex wedding and spent ages deliberating over how to introduce The Gay Gordons! In the end he told everyone about this before introducing the dance as The Gordons to much hilarity.

Ginger in Glasgow/west central belt also refers to a bottle of lemonade or other fizzy soft drinks.

NE Scotland has lots of redheads of all hues-Viking genes apparently-and it doesn't seem to be a huge issue here in terms of name calling etc.

Dotsmam Well! Who'd have thought it. I shall have to think of a new name for our cupboard under the stairs, now I've looked it up. The mind boggles!

I'll have to think of another term for a story that ends well, maybe a joyful conclusion?

I'm now thinking we should write a story using these. The last bit is obviously "there was a happy ending in the glory hole." Oh does this count as unacceptable now!?? Will it be censored?

All I can come up with so far:
It was a beautiful morning and John skipped gaily along. As he passed his friend Ginga he called out "How are you today?"
"Feeling a bit queer" answered Ginga.
"Come and skip with me," said John.
Together they went through the forest to Grandma's house. She was out somewhere, so they explored together and came to a happy ending in the glory hole.
