Do you have a special cup/mug for tea of coffee that you just have to use?

We have China mugs for tea (mine with flowers, his a Royal Navy one), and thicker ones for coffee time. At lunch time I often have cup of soup in a Christmas mug as it is a bit larger than all the others.

I have just sat down with a mug of herbal tea. The mug is a plain brown mug until you pour hot water into it, when a photo of two of my grandchildren opening Christmas presents appears.

I am dreadful, I think china and cutlery are the things that I am fussiest about.

The first cup of tea in bed is in thick china. It's the only one I can stand not to be in bone china. It's a huge cornishware blue and white striped mug that's almost a pint.

After that, about four mugs of coffee in smallish bone china mugs, the last coffee being at lunchtime. Then out come the larger tea mugs again, this time in bone china.

DBH has mugs, none of his are bone china, so we have a big cupboard full of DBH and My mugs, DS mugs, DD mugs, visitor mugs, GC mugs, bone china cups and saucers.

The only problem with bone china is, they don't last as long as the thick china ones. So a favourite expires pretty much every year or so. Luckily I have plenty of 'spares'. If we see some I like when we are out, DBH usually sighs and says 'Better buy three while we see them'.

I like a particular shape of mug - fluted out at the top.
And can't stand thick mugs.
My favourite are my bone China Belleek mugs, £5 each when on offer. Beautifully lightweight especially when hands are sore with arthritis and a perfectly shaped handle.

My understanding is that bone China is much stronger than the thick chunky pottery mugs.

I also have two larger taller China mugs to use for tea when having a fry up breakfast or fish and chips at tea time.

Do not have any bone china. Just thinking what it's made of makes me feel queasy.

yes, TerriBull, am the same as you.First thing I have to have a giant cup and saucer for my tea. later I have coffee from a delicate flowery china mug. Later still I have designated china mugs for tea, and after dinner in the evening like a normal sized china cup and saucer for coffee.Funny old things, aren't we?

DH insists on a bone china mug years old (guess who broke the spare one, you'd have thought it was a priceless antique). He won't drink out of anything else
Me? So long as it's a big mug, not fussed about which one.

Does bone china still have bone ash in it? I thought that was replaced nowadays.is there a knowledgeable person about?

BONE ASH. WOW could this be another use for our loved ones ashes ?

I do have a couple of favourite mugs.
When i worked in a day centre I had a large enamelled tin mug, everyone (other than me ) hated it, as it was so stained. However my view was that if we ever ran out of tea, I only had to fill it with hot water and it would brew from the stains.

My afternoon Assam I drink from a red mug, emblazoned with a crown and the legend:

My multiple doses of coffee in the morning are sucked from a black mug with the legend "Atheist" on it...

I've just remembered a Scottish RAF colleague, whose regulation mug had painted on it "IT'S NO YOURS - IT'S MINES" - Lowland Scots for 'Get yer own', I suppose!

I've had several favourite mugs over the years. They're always the ones that get broken!

But many of our mugs are personal to me and Mrs. Grumppa; I have never drunk from her Emma Bridgewaters.

I have a mug that GS bought me with Super Gran on it. No-one else is allowed to drink from it! I am, however, fussy about mugs. I like bone china; can't bring myself to drink out of straight sided pottery mugs. DD bought me a Wedgewood cup and saucer to keep at their house because they only have quite large mugs which I don't like. Ditto, DS always brings out a cup and saucer when I visit him, but they are Denby and you could swim in them! Far too fussy for my own good!

Pompa! Some things you have to compromise on! If I stop for a drink at all, I'm afraid it's the plastic cup on top of the flask! I like your image though!

All my mugs are plain white but I have a couple of special mugs that GC gave me with Grandma on, nobody but nobody touches them.

One? I have three. There is the great big double sided mug I make my morning lemon tea in. It means two mugs of tea (essential first thing) in one mug ( it used to be a big black one with clay liquorice allsorts stuck on it, but that got chipped and now lives on the window sill); there is the mug given to me by DD specifically for drinking my afternoon mug of tea and there is the lovely heavy studio pottery one with different glazes used to make an impressionistic moorland scene all round the mug with clay sheep stock on it, which I use for the rest of my drinks

I do have a special mug lol I have many special mugs, of which I get out each time the person that bought them for me sees that I am using their particular mug so as not to offend if I don't like it lol lol.If youet what I mean �������� lol.

My coffee comes in bone china violets cup and saucer, chocolate comes in bone china violets mug and also have same for bowl, tea plate and dinner plate and they are all MINE and DH doesn't even think about looking at them. OCD me no of course not!
