Is whistling dying out ?

It certainly isn't in our family. Over 100 years ago my fore-fathers started a Family Whistle which was used to get the attention of other family members. This whistle has been used by each generation since.

We were demonstrating it to our 4 year old grandson recently and explaining how it was a good way to find each other. I have just received a video of him whistling for the first time. He will need a bit more practise but the tradition has just passed to the next generation. smile

Do you whistle a good tune or use it like we do ?

Used to whistle a lot. When I was about eleven my mum knew when I was walking down the lane we lived on because she heard my whistling as I walked down it.

I'd much rather hear workmen whistling than them a have a blaring radio going. Constant radio noise does my head in. It's mechanical and lacks natural pauses that human noise, even whistling, has.

When I read the posts of the haters and loathers of whistling (see above in the thread), I thought "Blimey! and I thought I was hyper-sensitive to noise!"

PS If it dies out it dies out. Shrug. <wish radio noise and muzak would bloody die out>
