Anyone else have an 'egg pan'?

And, if anyone does, why?

My egg pan is an old pan that was a wedding present (in the dim and distant past!) and very disreputable but I wouldn't dream of boiling eggs in a normal saucepan - why? Is there some long forgotten reason for it or did I pick it up off Mrs Bucket my mum, who was only doing it to show off to the neighbours?

It does mcem but Taylors Yorkshire tea for hard water makes a good cup for those of us with hard water.

I have an egg pan and, in true Mrs Bucket fashion, store it upside -down so that anyone peeping into the pan cupboard doesn't see how 'scuzzy' it is! blush

My Mum had one, so when I got married I bought a little pan from Woolworths and used it just for egg boiling for 35 years until I got an induction hob. I now have an induction friendly pan but still keep my original one in the cupboard because I can't bear to get rid of it sad. Strange how one becomes attached to inanimate objects confused

Mum used to have a "milk pan" which was so called because it was the smallest I assume, but the term was as fixed as "frying pan" is. Maybe it is generational? When you think of it, how many "saucepans" do we need for all the use they get making sauce ?

I remember hearing on Gardeners Question Time I think, that the water from boiling eggs, once cooled was good for house plants.
Not true if it is correct or not but I do have lovely houseplants !!!???

Yes they don't make them anymore.Revere ware pots and pans are stainless steel with copper bottoms. They aren't made anymore but people sell them on EBay. My mom used them as I was growing up and I have some. They are great everyday saucepans. They last forever.

My mother always had a separate old pan for egg boiling, it seemed to have some sort of build up similar to limescale although we lived in soft water area. Maybe something to do with pans then being made of aluminium.

Yes, I also have an egg pan kept only for the three times a year that we have boiled eggs. Have never thought about why I do this........
