Children's misheard words or song lyrics

My son would sing "Oh come all ye faithful, joyful and trifle".
Once, at about 2 and a half, he asked me to sing the song about the 'sturdy piples who rode their bikes and played in the park'. After much head scratching, I realised he meant the hymn "Mothers of Salem": "When mothers of Salem their children brought to Jesus, the stern disciples drove them back and bade them depart ".
A friend's granddaughter goes into her garden to play on her jumpaline.

My then 5yo kept asking me what a "chipper pendon ice" was. I frankly had no idea what she was talking about until one day when we were in the self scanning bit of Tesco and it said "please insert your card into...the chip and pin device"

Mystery solved grin

The other week DGS kept asking DD to be a big black man so he could fight him. This was in a busy shopping street and the more she ignored him the louder he said it and the greater her embarrassment at having raised this apparently racist child. Finally the penny dropped. He had his Spiderman suit on and wanted her to be Batman so he could fight him grin

When I was a teenager a friend's mother used to sing

They call her frying pan, looking for a man.

(They call her smartypants, looking for romance)

When I was a young child and Sunday Mass was in Latin, there used to be a verse I remember "Kyrie eleison" (which I think is Greek) these words would be repeated a number of times followed by a repetition of Christie eleison, anyway for a long time I thought the priest was saying "Kyrie he got lace on, Christie he got lace on"

As a child raised RC I really get that one.

I remember the priest saying repeatedly during a school service

"Ora ben nobis,"

The little boy next to me in church tugged my sleeve and said,

"Why is he singing about me?"

His name was Ben Lewis.

@terribull - Yes Kyrie = Lord - well, these days it means Mr or Sir. That's democracy for you!

I think the Latin phrase is 'Ora pro nobis', isn't it? (Pray for us.)

Thanks feetlebaum - It is Ora pro nobis - another example of a child mishearing.
