Hello and welcome...grin

numberplease Wed 25-Feb-15 15:32:00

Bella, lovely to hear from you again, love the doggy story! I`m pleased that your hubby is doing OK at the moment, best of luck to him re the scan. And I hope that you make it over for your sister`s birthday.
Agus, sorry to hear that your hubby`s been unwell, glad everything`s sorted now, hope things stay that way.
I`ve ordered my hubby a present from Amazon. Seeing as he still can`t talk, and I can`t lipread, I`ve ordered some kiddies magnetic letters and numbers, and a magnetic board. We`ve tried him writing things down, but he keeps slanting it over what he`s already written, making it practically impossible to decipher! When he CAN speak, then maybe the magnetic stuff will come in handy for another patient.

Galen Wed 25-Feb-15 15:46:03

Bella where in the UK will you be?

Agus Wed 25-Feb-15 15:58:45

I was so hoping you both had a well deserved less worrying evening with your celebratory wee dram and pleased to here that was the case. I tend to bottle things up so didn't mention what was happening to DH. Thank you for your kind best wishes and flowers.

Always good to see you in the 'kitchen' Bella. Fingers firmly crossed here too for a good result with your DH's CT scan on Saturday. Hoping all goes well and you can make it to your sister's 70th.

Sorry though to hear the sad news of your DD and her husband separating. I think all we can do when this happens is just be there with love and support for our DC and DGC. I wish her all the best and as you say, the positive for you is having your darling GD living in Malta and no longer being a long distance Granny.

Galen Wed 25-Feb-15 16:08:20

Agus have you thought of the possibility of him using something like an iPad?

soop Wed 25-Feb-15 17:51:05

number Your poor husband has been going through a rotten time just lately. I feel so sorry for you both. Do you have any idea how much longer his present difficulty with speaking is going to continue? It really is so sad that the procedure for which he attended hospital has led to this sorry state of affairs. Big hugs especially for you.

Bella Yes, I also meant to say that I hope your husband's scan is favourable, and that you will be able to make the trip for your sister's birthday.

Agus Darling, please do share with your Granspals ...but only if it helps. I know that if I have anything on my mind...good or not so good, talking to you lot makes a world of difference. I feel blest to have the comfort and the kindness of our kitcheners to help me remain upbeat. You are all super special.

Tortoiseshell cat and Mother cat are ready and waiting for their suppers. At least the weather is a little calmer and milder today.

I hope that the family of Sox is happy to have him home again.

For now...enjoy your evening. I shall return in the morning. moon

Agus Wed 25-Feb-15 18:01:15

Galen. It is number's DH who can't talk at the moment. Mine, on the other hand, now that he feels so much better, won't shut up grin. I do think he is on a high after his reassuring news.

Don't know if you would like to do a swop for a while number. grin

soop you are a gem. flowers

dustyangel Wed 25-Feb-15 18:47:26

Bella Thinking of you flowers

I told your doggy story to DH who has been a bit down in the dumps what with his own convalescence and his brother going in and out of hospital at the moment and he laughed out loud.
I say down in the dumps but it is either that or talking nonstop like Agus's DH grin

Number, I'm glad your DH is still improving it must be so frustrating for him not being able to communicate. I know you don't drive, how are you managing with getting backwards and forwards to the hospital.?

annodomini Wed 25-Feb-15 19:02:01

So pleased to see you back on line, bellasnana. But sorry to hear of your daughter's separation - she may be in for a bit of a struggle for a while and your support is already spread thinly. It will be so lovely for you to have your GD close by. Such sad news about your SiL. You certainly have swings and roundabouts. flowers

Soop, no, we don`t know how long things will take. They can`t remove the tube from his neck until he can breathe completely for himself, they are gradually reducing the strength that he`s receiving from the ventilator, and they are intermittently trying him on another, smaller, ventilator to help him breathe on his own, but he can`t put up with it for long periods, so they put him on it 3 or 4 times a day.
Agus, frustrating as it is for him, and us, I will turn down your offer of a swap, it`s nice to be able to talk without being answered back sometimes!
Dustyangel, I have to rely on the family to take me to the hospital. There are 2 visiting sessions a day, but I go to one or the other. Apart from needing to be taken there, it`s very tiring going twice a day, I don`t get home from the afternoon one till 5pm, and would need to go out again at 6pm for the evening, getting home again at 8.30pm, it wouldn`t leave much time for making tea, or getting jobs done.

soop Thu 26-Feb-15 12:28:21

dustyangel A big (((hug))) to you. I'm sorry to hear that your husband is feeling under the weather. It's a good sign that he chatters away from time to time. However, sometimes, silence is golden. Do you remember that song? I loved it way back when...

number Please accept this virtual bouquet flowers on behalf of all your Granspals. You must be exhausted. Try to relax whenever you get the chance. When I mentioned to MacSporran that your husband continues to be very poorly, he said, it doesn't seem that long ago when you waved to them as they drove by our home. Ever since, I've regretted that we didn't meet. I would really love to have had a blether over coffee and cake in the lovely restaurant at Glenbarr.

I agree with anno that you, Bella, have more swings and roundabouts to contend with than the average Granspal. And yet...you remain strong. We do so admire you. sunshine

It's a blustery day. We went for our usual walk around the village and at one point the heavens opened and we were caught in a short, sharp downpour. The daffodils in our garden are blooming. When the sun catches them they add a cheerful slash of gold to the scene. The heather, which I planted (with the help of Boc the peacock) when we lived on the site in a caravan, looks heavenly. A huge blanket of purple and dusty pink. .

Anya Thu 26-Feb-15 12:35:36

Ups and downs with family I'm reading. Pleased to hear of the 'ups' and saddened by the 'downs'.

Your colour picture was pained beautifully in words soop sunshine

Don't laugh, but when I first came on here I thought Rory was your DH and MacSporran the cat blush

janerowena Thu 26-Feb-15 12:44:13

Me too! grin

I would love to be able to paint a word picture for you, as this morning was beautiful and a whole 13C, but sadly it is now a vast sheet of silvery greeny-grey through my window, very blurry as DBH took down the guttering last week and hasn't had time to replace it. It's like looking through a car window without the wipers working. At least all the windows are getting a good wash.

soop Thu 26-Feb-15 14:16:05

Anya You've made me chuckle out loud.

jane I like 'silvery greeny-grey.' We've just had another hail shower. Rory pretended to feel up to a short meander down the path...only the feeling didn't last beyond popping his nose an inch or so beyond the door. He and MacS are dozing. grin

Charleygirl Thu 26-Feb-15 14:23:34

It has been raining heavily here for hours. Tara wanted to go out but decided against it when she looked outside from the comfort of the hall. Later she thought that she would test and see if the rain actually was wet so ventured out. She must have sheltered under my car because she came in mildly damp, aware that wet rain was falling so has settled down happily to sleep.

I have been waiting here for hours for her cat food to be delivered. Apparently it was processed at 8.30am- how and where I have no idea. This I think will be a wasted day.

Agus Thu 26-Feb-15 14:42:03

number flowers I hope with each visit you see some progress for your DH. Take care of yourself too.

What started off as a blustery sunny morning is now a grey horizontal blowing afternoon. As DD says, any rotten weather due waits until school comes out at 3.00! It does seem like that some days.

Quite chuffed I am at last having success at another attempt to grow an avocado plant. I did one years ago and although I knew I would'nt get any fruit, the leaves are beautiful.

Hope your DD and DGD are with you soon Bella

Agus Thu 26-Feb-15 14:43:02

I came across a short video on Facebook just a few minutes ago. It was an experiment aimed at discovering the publics reaction to coming across a teenage boy without a coat, begging on a city street. For TWO HOURS folk walked by and very few even glanced in his direction. It was as if he was invisible. He was shivering. He put a black bin liner around himself for protection. As the clip from the video neared its conclusion, a black man, who was also sitting against a nearby building, went across to the boy. He sat on the pavement beside him and asked questions about the lad's well being. He then removed his own jacket and wrapped it around the boy. It was at that point two other young men stopped and hugged the good Samaritan. My goodness...all those who ignored the young man must have had hearts of stone.

Galen Thu 26-Feb-15 16:16:43

Well, darling daughter has just booked her wedding September 18th at the registry office. Her partner has said he'd better take the day off! I pointed out it could be done in his lunch hour but he hasn't replied?
I think they're having a marquee at the sailing club for the reception. I have no idea as to the dress code or how I get there and back.
Knowing darling daughter, I wouldn't be surprised if it was jeans and lifejackets!

Charleygirl Thu 26-Feb-15 16:18:12

soop I would have walked passed him. I am so used to youngsters begging for drug money in London. I have offered to buy sandwiches but that is not what is wanted- only hard cash for the next fix. I have a heart of stone I am afraid.

Gagagran Thu 26-Feb-15 16:23:21

Galen I think a chauffeur-driven car there and back is called for and probably pearls to be worn? Sounds as if it will be a great day knowing sailing club types! Could there be two pretty little flower girls in attendance?

Charleygirl Thu 26-Feb-15 16:30:56

Galen the date is a Friday so maybe the husband to be could take a 1/2 day off and maybe fit in a honeymoon as well?

Galen Thu 26-Feb-15 16:32:06

Knowing the two little girls in question, the elder would insist on carrying either an aeroplane or a Tyrannosaurus rex and the younger would want to be playing football!

Galen Thu 26-Feb-15 16:34:07

Her partner is on the rescue launch on Saturday and Sunday so I think they'll be camping at the club.
It's set in acres of fields on the banks of the river Severn where they sail.

soop Thu 26-Feb-15 17:06:57

Charleygirl I would have given him my jacket...or, had I some cash in my purse, I'd have bought him a cosy sweater and a scarf. Even so, not knowing the lad's plight and not even wishing to know are poles apart. I could not have rested until I had tried to do something useful for him.

Galen Wouldn't mind betting that the wedding will be enormous fun. How could it not be (with you as a guest.) wink

Galen Thu 26-Feb-15 17:21:04

hmm
