I can't take codeine because it makes me very sick, and has little effect too, I am amazed it knocked you out. Apparently in UAE it's a Class A drug, and heaven help anyone caught with it!
Aren't DDs wonderful- a few years ago mine told the cinema kiosk lady that I was an OAP when I was only 56...... I was speechless!

It's almost a year since my accident soop then 3 months after that, DH had two minor heart attacks so it has been a stinker of a year but we have finally reached the light at the end of the tunnel.

One humorous event was a couple of months ago whilst still on co-codamol, I offered to do the school run. I stupidly got mixed up with meds and took a double dose which spaced me out and I spent the day in bed. DD then did the school run but when her friends asked where I was she told them, Oh, Granny was too high on drugs to drive today. I took quite a ribbing for that when I met them in the playground again, one of whom is a detective with the drug squad!

I had nerve block too, very glad it worked for you annodomini, whilst it worked for me once it wore off [eek!], it took what seemed like hours before anything kicked in so ended up on a plethora of analgesics

"Charleygirl*, when I had surgery on my wrist, the anaesthetist gave me a nerve block which got me over the immediate post-op period. When I recognised him, before my shoulder replacement, I asked for the same thing and, for 24 hours, felt nothing in that arm. A wonderful solution for my morphine problem!

I loved the Morphine when I effectively detached my foot from the end of my leg, with full dislocation and eight fractures
I didn't become addicted but weaning myself off Tramadol was slow because ibuprofen/paracetamol were nowhere near effective and I can't take codeine

anno I have had such bad reactions that I have seriously considered tattooing that fact on my forehead. Hospitals do not have a substitute these days so I ended up with next to zilch for pain relief after my knee replacement.

Morphine made me as sick as a dog when I had my hip replaced and I felt so much better when they detached the pump. I doubt if I could ever become an addict.

Wowee! The wind has picked up and the snow/sleet/hail is lashing down. Off to feed the pussy cats. I doubt that Mother and tortoiseshell cat will venture out in this. Never mind, just in case they should, I shall prepare their supper and cling-film it.

Warm hugs for all my Granspals, I shall pop in to see if there are any calorie-free goodies on offer in the morning. Wouldn't that be a treat.

The first real snow has fallen in Kintyre. I looked out the camera and guess what...in the meantime it has melted and the sun is shining.

Did anyone watch the final episode of last night's drama? I thought that the ending was terribly sad. I felt like weeping for the wee boy. I wish that I could "toughen up"...I'm far too sensitive.

Agus I've been given morphine on something like half a dozen occasions. Always in hospital to help deaden severe pain...the moment it "hits the spot" is blissful. However...the same stuff must be hellish to wean oneself off, if for whatever reason the system gets well and truly hooked.

I'm glad your car problem is sorted, galen. You must have been very concerned.

I followed a pair of grandparents around with their small descendant in the supermarket trolley seat. They clearly loved having him. I thought, if I had DBH to share the pain joy with me, it could probably be very enjoyable. But by the time he retires, I shall be too ancient and creaky to be able to cope.

I did return to the chemist. He peered at me suspiciously, and I asked for pirinase nasal spray. Normally I get 'Is this for you? Have you used this before? Do you know how to use it?' [goodgrief]

This time - not a peep. He simply handed it over. Complete silence. I'm quite worried now, I think I have taken away all the excitement and power he had in his job! But at least he now knows that I am alive.

ps. I weaned myself off morphine as soon as I possibly could after my accident last year. Really didn't want to stay on it any longer than necessary.

I remember when a child scoffing lots of Gees linctus tablets. They were very moorish.

Well,the Great Gary has sorted out my insurance problems ( Lloyd's having recorded an accident notification as a claim, which it wasn't and Sheila's Wheels saying I'd had an accident claim which I hadn't told them about and threatening to cancel my insurance) he used to be a big wheel in insurance before he decided the outdoor life was better.

Well...here we are again...happy as can be...all good friends and jolly good company. I think that this merry ditty could well be our signature tune.

Galen Can any of us help to dispel the blues? Family issues can be a right b*** but almost without fail the same issues can be resolved and we miraculously discover that our zest for life has been restored. Sit here for a while where you can watch the sea lapping the shore. It can be very soothing. .

Purple I don't envy you having to introduce two new lady cats into your household. Felliway may help. It will be a tricky situation for a wee while. I hope that after some initial spitting and uppity behaviour all three cats will accept each other. Sorry to hear that you also have family problems to contend with.

janer Thank you for making us . I love the tale of the Night Nurse debate. I worked as an assistant in a pharmacy way back when we lived in Cornwall. The shop often had a few "iffy" customers call in with coughs of one kind or another. The folk were from outlying areas and throughout the course of the day each customer would purchase a bottle of cough mixture. The boss always had words with the purchaser. Naturally the group were not contemplating suicide. At that time I didn't understand that one could get addicted to the stuff.

purpledaffodil try to introduce them gradually, if you can. Keep them separate and shut in. It really probably depends on your house, doesn't it. They will be scared, and your cats will feel invaded. Be prepared for a few puddles, and a dirt tray will be essential for a while.

I would love to know what the meths was for! I am popping back to the Sainsbury chemist this afternoon. I may try to buy another bottle, just for fun.

galen are you feeling a bit cabin-feverish? Only, I don't actually WANT to go anywhere at the moment, in February I want to hibernate, but DBH has been taking my car because his has been playing up and they can't find out what the problem is. This does make me feel isolated, I just like the thought that I could get out and go somewhere if I felt like it. So as his car started this morning, for once I do have my car so feel I should use it. But the weather is vile. I'm hoping it will be a little better this afternoon.

Definitely the best bunch to vent amongst. Good friends who identify and empathise just when it is needed.

Hope your diplomacy paid off and you achieved the respect you so deserve and can now enjoy a calmer day.
