Does anyone know how to start a Registered Charity

CelticRose If you do not need to make money for yourself and have time to spare, there might be a 'buddy' organisation near you. This likes to match volunteers (who have to be CBR screened) with people who have various disabilities. Sometimes, it is just a question of taking someone to the shops, or out for a walk, just something for those who are less able to be able to do. You might even think of starting a buddy scheme yourself.

Thanks all for comments. Went to see solicitor as well as checking web sites. Charities Commission website most revealing! I was amazed at potential mis-management for want of better word. I will swerve this and try to find job to fill my time. Or I could take food hygiene course in order to sell baked goods at farmers markets..... . So many choices.

Durhamjen. I can't do it all on my own and I only have limited funds but lots of time. How can I ask others to commit their time and with their limited incomes? At least being Registered will have some form of control, and make the Charity more respectable - hopefully.

Also as a not-for-profit organisation any money made has to go back in to the charity!

There are strict regulations for a Charity including a clear charitable purpose, who are the benefactors, governance and accountability so not really comparable to an 'ordinary business'.

Does/ should anyone start a registered charity with a view to getting better benefits than an ordinary business?

Look at the Charity Commission website, it's full of useful info CelticRose and they're very helpful if you need to call them.
