An "Oh sh*t" button

Have you ever pressed "Send " and one nanosecond later wished you hadn't? Or "replied" when you meant to "forward" with a trenchant comment?
Or sent a late night PM which was meant to beabout a GN member, to that person instead?
I imagine there are quite a few of us who would welcome an "Oh sh*t" key on our laptop! grin

If you use Gmail for your emails you do get a 5 second chance to "undo" once you have pressed "send"

I assume it's cheap! It uses the same format as the Beeb used to use. Less to go wrong, very basic.

I've discovered that on Gransnet, once you have typed your reply, you can 'refresh' the page and any new posts that have come while you were typing will then appear.
Another forum I use, tho, has the very useful function of warning you, when you press 'Post', if there has been another post and you can then see what it was.
I'm very surprised that GN is so basic in its working.

A recall button is a very good idea.

ffinnochio Sun 08-Feb-15 19:56:05

How about an apology key?

rosequartz Sun 08-Feb-15 18:48:13

You're very good, soon, to check everything.

I have read through posts a couple of times before clicking 'post' only to find that someone else has beaten me to it and posted my wonderful, original idea a couple of minutes before me!

I replied to DD on a FB message only to realise that I had included her whole list - 'Reply All'.

janerowena Sun 08-Feb-15 11:50:56

Oops!

kittylester Sun 08-Feb-15 11:49:55

I once emailed DD1 telling her that DD2 had been dumped, that she was very upset and could she send her a nice email! I included DD2 in that email - she was very cross!!

A "recall" button to get an email back before the damage is done? It could be called "Fetch"!

janerowena Sun 08-Feb-15 11:46:16

DBH and I were once sending a long line of emails teasing each other while he was at work, having his lunch. Somehow I managed to reply to his last rather rude comment to the whole of my email list. Several of whom worked with him.

I received a whole load of emails almost immediately, saying that our marital discussions had made their day, they had laughed so much. blush

Yes, I can't see why there isn't an 'edit' facility, or even a 'delete' facilty. It does seem rather odd.

Soutra Sun 08-Feb-15 11:45:28

Not a "cut" reply "back" and sides?

Soutra Sun 08-Feb-15 11:44:02

wink
I have also fallen foul of writing on a person's timeline on FB instead of messaging so my comment, fortunately entirely harmless and benign, was there for all to see. blush

I sent a text intended for my hairdresser. I have known him for a while. I sent it to another person with the same name. I got a curt reply backshock

janeainsworth Sun 08-Feb-15 11:25:11

jingl I imagine that 'forward' in the context that Soutra used it, means that person A receives an email from person B, which they want to share with person C.
That's when you click on 'forward', with C's email address in the box. I'm sure you knew that really.
It's quite possible, especially late at night, when you might have had a few wine, to click on 'reply' instead of 'forward', so that said email, instead of going onto C, with, as Soutra says, a sharp comment, goes back to B instead. You might not have wanted B to see the sharp comment that was intended for C's eyes only.
The other thing to watch out for is the 'reply to all' option, when an email has been sent to a group of people.
I know someone who alienated two potential bridesmaids by replying to 'all' instead of one chosen recipient shock

Actually Soutra, I have done the very thing once.... made a comment to someone which I thought was in a pm, and it was in the early days of FaceBook- it did cause someone to have a fit, and sadly, perhaps some upset too, so I am VERY careful now.

TriciaF Sun 08-Feb-15 11:02:27

Sending an email - many times I've typed a long chatty email then tapped "back" instead of "send" - but a notice pops up to say do you really want to throw this away?

granjura Sun 08-Feb-15 10:55:00

Well, this is the only Forum I know off, that a/ does not allow you to delete what you said and b/ that does not allow you to make corrections or alterations within a time frame. Bizarre. Is it deliberate to force people to count to 10 and check and re-check before pressing on 'send'?.

Having been a PA and translator, I type v fast and never check.

annodomini Sun 08-Feb-15 10:48:56

I do hope I've never done that...blush

soontobe Sun 08-Feb-15 10:48:16

No, Soutra! smile

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 08-Feb-15 10:47:31

Why???

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 08-Feb-15 10:46:39

I really don't understand. Have I got it wrong.

And what do you mean "forward"?

I'm being thick aren't I? sad confused

ninathenana Sun 08-Feb-15 10:45:48

Fortunately I've so far never needed said button but I agree it would be useful to have smile

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 08-Feb-15 10:44:35

A PM about a member? That was supposed to go to another member?!

No.

And what's wrong with actually posting the word 'oh shit', or perhaps, 'fuckety-do-dahs'? confused

Soutra Sun 08-Feb-15 10:41:49

Ah but not everybody is as meticulous as you soontobe, are they? grin

soontobe Sun 08-Feb-15 10:33:38

I spend a while constructing the posts before I send them rosequartz.
