Armed police on doorstep

When we were living in Cornwall DH had his application to join a pistol club turned down. When he queried this with a policeman he was friendly with he found out that Special Branch had been following him for months! Apparently a villain from the east end was on the run and, as DH came from the same area and Cornwall was a favourite place for villains to hide, they thought he might have made contact with us. We'd had no idea at all that all this was going on!

Many years ago my mother had a visit from the police who were looking for my brother. Luckily DM knew what it was about and explained that the person they were looking for was actually using DB's identity. She showed them his photo and they accepted her explanation. It was true though someone DB knew when he was a teenager has used his identity for decades.

Years later DB was between houses and was staying at DM's house. He phoned work saying he would be in later, then decided to not go in and phoned again, his boss insisted he come in immediately, (he had the sort of job where he could work from home and didn't go to the office every day). DB didn't go and about half an hour later the police surrounded DM's house. They were looking for the crook who was still using DB's identity years later. Apparently the police had been at DB's work waiting for him and that is why his boss had to try and get him to come in. When they realised the mistaken identity (it's on their records) they came in and had a cup of tea with DM and DB.

DB found out later his ex had tipped the police off, knowing about this other person using my brother's name. She really should have been charged for wasting their time. It's a true story and that's my family's dealings with being raided by the police.

My sis-in-law works in a newsagents and was held at gunpoint a few years ago. The guy got away with £60 but was caught and is now in jail. Very frightening for her.

Very worrying when it is on your doorstep. A few years ago I was looking after GD at DS's house and there was an armed gang burst into a house in the next street. I could hear the helicopter and the police sirens but nobody came to reassure us as to whether they had caught them.

Tea and cake competed . Police still at garage, but it is open now.
Thought I'd get the inside info from the checkout at Tesco, but they hadn't heard any more.

I live in the middle of nowhere in the wilds of Scotland, but there was an attempted robbery at a shop along the road, a couple of years ago.
The guy had a knife so the bloke on the till whacked him over the head with a sellotape dispenser.

I remember taking DD2 for a walk in her pram once and being unable to get to school to pick up the other DC because there had been 'an incident' nearby. Luckily the school were informed and kept the children in until it was resolved.

Twerp across the road allegedly beat his neighbour up with a rifle some years back. We had armed police using our cars to lean on, bright spot lights and 3 barking police dogs outside all night.

Twerp finally came out after about 9 hours by which time I could have cheerfully shot thumped him myself- we couldn't sleep, police wouldn't let us put on the light or go downstairs to make a hot drink.

I absolutely know they have to be prepared and things could have changed for the worse but I was more bemused than worried, knowing the bloke involved!

Rose, we are heading out for tea and cake very soon, road better be open now or Pompa won't be a happy bunny.

When I was flying from Heathrow to Iceland the terminal was crowded and under alterations. I was somewhere near the El Al (Israeli) airline gates and there the guards had heavy rifles all over the place.

In the 70's we had armed police at our door warning us to stay indoors as there was an "incident" in progress at the top of our road. An armed man was on the loose with a shotgun. Eventually he was shot and killed by a police marksman. He turned out to be a boy I went to school with. His mother was never the same again.

Yikes mishap!

I walked out of a shoe shop in Brum in the 70s and it blew up behind me! IRA.

I was a witness to an armed robbery of a jewellers shop. It was scary. They told me to stand away! I obeyed!

Joking apart I hope no one was badly hurt in knife attack, very disconcerting so close to home.

Being close to an army garrison, I bet the police are on high alert and sitting round ready just in case. The chance to get out and do something was probably too good to miss. I'm sure our PCSO could have coped.

I suspect they are worried in case there are any terrorist plots about to erupt. Either that or they watched Silent Witness this week.
