I was astonished to wander in and find that there has been oodles of activity. We watched Gosford Park last night. A favourite of ours. MacSporran enjoyed sampling his Jura special malt and, by the time it came to shut eye time, he was feeling no pain. I had a sip and knew that it was far too peaty for my taste. I therefore had one glass of red wine. so unlike me! We had no sooner cleaned teeth and turned out the lights when our neighbour called to say "come on round..." It was, by then, too late to get all togged up and battle the wind and rain, so we shall catch up another time.

The New Year's Day Vienna Concert has started. We love the spectacle and the glorious music. A pot of coffee-time and relax to enjoy the programme. Rory snug as a bug on a rug in my chair.

A big barrel of (((((hugs))))) to every one of you lot You are the BESTEST...as Torben would say.

Hello Agus- M&S are the only ones I have found who sell 100% steak pies. Another thing I used to love was white pudding but that is unheard of down here.

I now have 2 cars!!! My "new" car is 2 years old, 1643 miles on the clock and previously owned by somebody more ancient and decrepit than me. It is like a new car which has been run in. It has had 2 services at the place where she bought and sold it and it has had x2 oil changes!!! It is a Skoda City. My car had central locking and electrically operated windows, this one has manual locking and wind down windows but I am sure that I can live with that.

I am waiting for a phone call to see if somebody I know will buy my old car. If not, I am driving to "webuyanycar.com" tomorrow but I doubt if I will be given the price they offered on line. It will be x £££s deducted for scratch marks and so on. Once that car goes I can arrange insurance for my new car on Monday. It is running on a week's free insurance at present but I cannot afford to insure 2 cars. The complications at present!

I've been away from GN for a few months, since Dad died in July, really. It's taken me a while to catch up with all the Kitcheners' news. Soop, sending you and your husband love and positive thoughts for his treatment. And to all of you, I wish for you a new year that holds blessings to be counted and joys to be cherished. I shall lurk in the kitchen for a while and enjoy the comfort it offers.

I've brought in some smoked salmon sandwiches for anyone with a space to fill. They go rather well with this bottle of bubbly to toast a Happy, Healthy New Year to us all.

The concert was a marvellous treat. I loved the ballet, the costumes and the fact that the male ballerinas wore suits...I thought that was pretty cooel. The décor is spectacular. I felt like a member of the elite audience. And, naturally, the music was pretty good too.

Charleygirl The "new car" will be a bonus, I feel sure. Having had one careful driver it's almost as good as straight from the assembly line. It's a fact that one never seems to get a fair price for a used car (when selling) ...par for the course, I guess.

POGS thank you for your kind words. In fact, thank you ALL for your thoughtful messages. This forum means a great deal to me. It's wonderful thing that, although some of us may never meet, there is a bond between us...for which I am truly grateful.

The cat basket I won on the e-bay auction has just arrived and it's immaculate - like new. Very pleased! All I need now is my new furry friend (yet to be adopted) to use it. Hope we pass whatever test the cat social worker lady puts us through on Tuesday!

I hope all your kitties are very well behaved. We went for a meal yesterday with our ex-DiL and her family and her two younger children have guinea pigs. When they went away in September I had them here at my house and thought them delightful, so yesterday I thought I would renew my friendship. One of them gave me a really sharp nip, more like a bite really, on my thumb and it poured with blood. I hope your cats are better trained.

soop the weather is affecting the internet, I have been trying to reply to your question about where I live on the Hebrides but my connection keeps coming and going The wind has been so bad its just blew a plane off the runway at Stornoway airport. I live on the west side of North Uist, when I posted at new year, a little worse for wear, I was at a traditional ceilidh, mostly Gaelic speaking, there were fiddles and squeeze boxes it was so good, the hospitality was excellent. I think you and I are very fortunate to live in such glorious surroundings. I had better post this quick before my internet goes again. for everyone

newist How lovely of you to send a message in spite of the weather conditions. Our internet connection has come and gone on several occasions since I logged on. We saw on the news that a plane had been blown off the runway and two people injured. Wow! Both MacSporran and I are envious that you had the opportunity to spend time at a traditional ceilidh. We've attended a few since we moved from Cornwall to Kintyre (about ten years ago.) The very first occasion, was for us, AMAZING! We were in awe of the dancers. Strip the Willow and such-like, were dances we had never encountered before. The music is special, I agree. Foot-tapping doesn't quite fit the bill. We love Kintyre. We're very happily settled in a small community and, from day one, we've known true friendship and hospitality.

A bheil Gàidhlig agaibh newist I love a good ceilidh especially the spontaneous ones which just seem to happen depending which musicians might be present.

I think my Strip the Willow days are behind me now soop. Doesn't stop my feet tapping though

We did 'Strip the Willow' not long ago at a village ceilidh - the first time in years. I did get a bit disoriented, especially as some of the 'men' were in fact 'women'!

rosequartz I love the reaction when a stranger to Scottish dancing goes off course. It really doesn't matter. In fact, it makes for woops of laughter in our village hall. Let joy be unconfined.
