I caught the tail end of a programme with Andrew Marr yesterday and was quite blown away with how truly deranged Margaret Thatcher seemed. I never liked her at the time (understatement) but in retrospect her total detachment from reality is quite scary. How did all these supposedly intelligent politicians and voters get sucked into her world? It was very very creepy indeed. Anyone else see it?

Nelliemoser wrote on page 2 "power going to people's heads so they think they're Gods." I think that happens to a lot of people if they manage to get a position in politics.
I was involved in local politics in the 70s. A few of our members got elected onto the council and they changed completely, started to throw their weight about at local meetings etc whereas before they had been typical working class, salt of the earth types .
Not saying that's all that's involved - hoping and planning to be a PM, even if you have sincere ideals, then landing in the reality where you can't do what you wanted or promised because of changing circumstances.
Having said that, I despised MT's principles, but admired her for being a woman and carrying out her job in a man's world.
