What to wear on Christmas Day?

Nothing out of the ordinary. Jeans probably. I don't have any trousers that do not fall down at the moment.

M&S had some nice black velvet stretchy Roma slim Jeans the other day and a pair fell into my shopping basket. I shall wear a long grape cowl-necked cashmere tunic over the top. Not until after breakfast though.

This year Christmas will be at my daughter's home for the first time ever. I'll be spending time playing with the grandchildren and the dog. SIL will be cooking - he's great in the kitchen. So no xmas pinny required for me this year. Instead I am going to wear black leggings, slipper boots and a long, black jumper with an elf's tunic on it. I have an elf's hat too - I know, I'm very childish

I am wearing a glittery shift dress which I am currently making alongside dolls and teddy clothes. If it doesn't get finished , which is a possibility, I will wear a black silk dress with lots of bling. The men do the cooking so I keep out of the kitchen.

Black velvet skinny jeans and a top - definitely a top.
Maybe 2 tops, as I might forget the pinny after a bucks fizz.
Better have third one on standby for after the goose!
After that, who cares?

I will dress, hubby cooking won't, father in law 92 will knitted by wife ten year old jumper despite giving him numerous new ones, was blue now grey! Hope you all have a merry and peaceful Christmas!

Ah, what to wear on Christmas Day!

A silk dressing gown for breakfast, then a fat-resistant onesie for helping Mrs. Grumppa in the kitchen. Cherry chinos and a Barbour gilet for mid-morning champagne, then black tie for the actual lunch. A brisk post-prandial walk in a green tweed suit, then smoking jacket in the evening.

Isn't that how all male Gransnetters dress for the occasion?

Going to DS and DDIL. Will wear either black velvet leggings or black jacquard slim cigarette pants (with stretch) with flat pumps that have a bow. A long tunic top. All M & S. Then home to pjs and slippers.

Oh Grumpa you have given me a wonderful early morning laugh with a description of your changing attire for Xmas Day. I think you must have been taking sartorial advice from Mr. Toad.

If you think back to what people of our age now would have worn in the 1940s and 1950s.

Mother would have worn a Hand knitted sweater or twin set, sensible thick material skirt. A wrap around apron or a little pinnie if cooking. A Xmas cracker hat over a possibly permed hair do.

Of course if you were monied you would have worn a bright coloured tailored dress with a piece of expensive jewellery. Sheer stockings and black court shoes.

For the men a newly ironed shirt of thick material, a pair or braces holding up your tweed trousers and a hand knitted tank top, finished off with a pair of tartan slippers. Oh and a packet of fags and a box of matches in your pocket.

Apart from the onesie and the cherry chinos, your description does sound very like my father! My mother was very elegant 50s personified. She would have been in a very full or pencil skirt in a houndstooth check or black wool probably, with a cherry red fitted cashmere jumper. She hated pinnies. I don't know how her clothes survived but usually she would just tuck a teatowel in her waistband when baking.

My short and v rotund FIL was caught out wearing MIL's pink furry onesie....he said it was warm! It was like a vision of a very large Easter rabbit as he opened the door. Thank goodness it was us and not the postie.

Jeans as usual. There will be grubby GC wiping their sticky fingers everywhere.

How true Mishap... but we wouldn't have it any other way, would we?

I'm loving my £7 onesie (Frosties tiger). It is very cosy but I don't think I should wear it to meet DS2's GF's parents in on Christmas Day.

They are probably think the same, rubysong...

Ooops, meant to say that they probably have the same outfit and are saying they shouldn't wear it to meet DD's new BF's parents.

grumpa I am shocked - no fez with tassle to accompany the smoking jacket?

Think we could be wearing coveralls and face masks, Supposed to be going to our Sons, but he is very poorly atm, so not sure if we may have to postpone Christmas for him. He was supposed to be joining us today for my 70th Birthday lunch, but he is too ill to drive.
