Little acts of kindness

A lady who used to sing in my singing group has just appeared unexpectedly on the doorstep with a bunch of flowers for me. I have not seen her for ages, but she had heard that I had been ill and depressed and she just decided to buy me some flowers. It is impossible to say what such little acts of kindness mean at times like this. I was totally bowled over and it has lifted my spirits.

Thank you Tillycon and Greenfinch. He can be the most lovely young man, today has been really helpful, asking for jobs which need doing. He is also very supportive of his friends when they are having problems and sometimes doesn't sleep for worrying about them.

But sometimes reverts to typical teen, but then he does need to let off steam and better at home than at college etc. I think. I love him to bits and I am very lucky. smile

Not so much an act of kindness but I mistakenly phoned the wrong number in my contacts on my phone and got an old friend we knew whilst home schooling. He told us that he was going in for a triple heart bypass this week. It was lovely to catch up with him and will be good to go and see him when he gets back home. I was originally after my nephew as I had not heard off my brother and could not reach him but got a welcome chat and now back in touch with a good role model for my son and a good friend for me. smile

It's often from the unexpected person [the act of kindness] rather than the expected one,I find.

Rubylady you have a lovely son and should be proud. We need more people like him in the world and stories like this need to be told again and again to give us hope for the future of the planet

Having watched so many programmes recently about elderly people who may not speak to someone all day I do make a point of saying hello while out walking the dog. If someone engages in conversation I try to take a few minutes to chat. Not much but it might help.

My DS (who I moan about on here) phoned me on Thursday coming home from college to tell me he had found a dog roaming and what to do about it. I asked did it have a collar and he said no. I told him to bring it home and we would inquire about it to vets, RSPCA etc. He phoned me back a few minutes later when he said when he went to pick it up, it scampered off into a shop/warehouse nearby. He followed it and asked the people inside if the dog belonged to them. They said yes and thanked him for making sure she was safe. I was really proud of him and glad he has this side to him to help people.

A couple of years ago an elderly lady got a card stuck in the part of the ATM where receipts come out of. She said it was her neighbours card who she was shopping for. She was panicked and upset. The staff at ASDA did nothing. My son ran into the shop, bought some tweezers and took time to slowly get the card back out, which he did. Proud mum again. smile

I agree with henetha, lots of acts of kindness go on every day without anyone knowing and I think there is more good than bad in the world. The television news should start to include good stuff instead of all the evil we are being bombarded with. We all need to be uplifted sometimes

This is wonderful, and a good lesson in how we can so easily lift someone's day by just a small act of kindness.
I think, in spite of all the evil in the world, there are also a million acts of kindness everyday which go un-noticed.
I'm going to make an effort to be more thoughtful. I'lll start right now!
flowers- these are for everyone who feels a bit down.

I'll try to make it my New Year's resolution- to remember how just a little effort, gesture, smile or flowers (wrong season- but I love taking wild flowers from the meadows to older ladies who can't go out anymore)...

How lovely mishap and what a super thing to do. I am still wondering who sent me some Interflora (ie expensive) flowers 2 weeks ago and it sort of takes the joy out of them not quite knowing whether they really were for me.
