National Savings website which said download the form and post, this I did. I did think I could go to the post office so I clicked on the link for that but that went to an error, and still does. So I applied but didn’t hear anything, however the cheque was cashed. So I checked that nothing had been received by the nominated parent and phoned. I was told they could do nothing without details of the cheque. Also that I should have got an acknowledgement by email. This was strange because the form does not ask for an email address. Not inspired with much confidence I did ring the bank. The bank had no idea what National Savings were asking for. I rang back to National saving to ask and was told that was wrong I can only further my enquiry by writing in. She refused to do anything over the telephone. I have written in and will let you know if I get a reply. This is funny, I asked how I could stop the transaction (because I had a bad feeling that it was going to be a lot of hassle). She said I could not because it was a gift and only the recipient can stop it. Seems strange and completely at odds with the usual process when it is the purchaser that deals with a complaint, especially when the recipient never received it. However, I’m not sure how correct her information was as she also said the only way to make a complaint was by letter. I have since found out that this is not true. Anyway I shall abort this idea and while I’m at it draw out all the money I have in premium bonds and put them somewhere where the staff are more helpful.
