I can understand that it might be hurtful but such tales are part of music and drama and always will be. Greed and a desire for power, betrayal by a lover, jealousy. Othello, Carmen and many more tales are about these subjects.

Theses songs and dramas have been around for centuries.
It seems inappropriate to me to ban them, perhaps we just have to live with them and see them as cautionary tales.

This was the subject of a piece on Radio 4 Today this morning. I missed the beginning, but I think someone's written a book about songs about law breaking. Delilah was mentioned along with several others. In The Summertime, Mungo Jerry: "Take a drink, take a drive, go out and see what you can find..."

I think once you start down that road, there'll be no stopping. It's a bit like banning humour that pokes fun at someone, almost all humour pokes fun at someone.

I didn't know that 'Delilah' was a Welsh rugby anthem.....the thought of hundreds of men singing it makes me feel a bit sick.

I agree with you AllieOxen. A woman supporter phoned the JV show in support of the singing of Delilah, a Welsh former rugby player just didn't get the arguments against the singing. This, despite the fact a woman whose sister had been killed by her husband phoning in to express concern about the lyrics of Delilah. I don't agree with the slipper slope argument. I had a much loved gollywog as a child, wouldn't buy one today though.
