What do you take up with you when you go to bed?

I take my handbag and make sure my purse and phone are inside and I make sure I know where my keys are in case I need to make a hasty exit.

As soon as I switch on the stairlight, Tara races upstairs. I do not take anything to bed, everything is there already. At least 6 unread books in case I suddenly run out of reading material. Only when I am settled in bed after a shower does Tara come for cuddles and leaves when I pick up my book to return for more cuddles if she thinks that I have been reading for too long and neglecting her.

I do not leave anything in the hall as somebody else mentioned, in case burglars come on a fishing expedition.

Hot drink and a snack, Kindle, ipad if I want to get on with the latest jigsaw puzzle, mobile phone, glass of water. I also make sure my ipod and ear phones are by the bed in case I want to listen to a relaxation app during the night.

I don't take anything up with me to bed. All I need is in the bedroom. Alarm clock, Nintendo DS, tablet, current book, battery operated lamp, (in case of power cut), and dog (she's always there before me).

Gosh, you all have a place in the house for your handbag! Mine just gets put down wherever I happen to be.

I just take my Kindle and phone with me.

I read in bed and then DH comes up later and removes the book and specs which I have dropped when nodding off and switches the light off. Like others my book, pen and paper are already up there and I don't drink anything in the night. If I did I would need to go to the loo more often than I already do!

Kindle, mobile phone, glasses, bottle of water (mainly for medications if I need them). Oh, and Theseus!

Lona Fri 26-Sept-14 09:31:58

I don't take anything up with me, I already have spare glasses in every room. I don't read in bed I always watch tv for a while.
My handbag and iPhone are left downstairs, no letterbox for any fishing burglars, and I have a phone extension next to my bed.
My friends call me 'Mrs Organised'! grin

Culag Fri 26-Sept-14 09:33:45

A glass of water and my mobile. Other paraphernalia is already up there. I have recently stopped taking up my Ipad as I realised it was too much of a temptation and it was preventing me sleeping properly!

Pittcity Fri 26-Sept-14 10:49:17

Glass of water, kindle and DH (sometimes!).

I leave my phone on charge downstairs - anything urgent will ring landline or DH. My handbag is on floor by sofa. I too have tissues and spare glasses by bed.

tanith Fri 26-Sept-14 11:55:22

Glass of water, kindle and DH unless he's watching something 'good' (old rubbish).

I keep spare glasses/tissues by the bed and have the landline on my bedside table.

It takes a couple of trips to the bedroom before I go to bed, first go in and pull down the blind and draw the curtains then make blackcurrant drink find glasses for reading put tablets on bedside for taking just before drink of juice put book on pillow ready for reading, then find Poppy and put her on end of bed after all this visit bathroom and clean teeth, watch last few minutes of news before reading book then lights off.

No two nights are the same. smile
I keep a lot of stuff permanently by my bed anyway; water, tissues, torch, sudoku books, novels, notepad and pen......my iPad and/or Kindle may or may not be there already.....I may take a cup of tea up, or milk for a cup of tea in the morning if I decide to switch the teasmade on, I usually take my mobile phone, but not always as I have a landline in the bedroom...... sometimes I take my laptop and/or my handbag.
Not a creature of habit then am I?

glammanana Fri 26-Sept-14 12:35:17

ga looks like you are well catered for grin

goldengirl Fri 26-Sept-14 15:29:34

My bag + iPad + phone if its not in the bag + magazine and/or book + cardigan if I've taken it off to wash up + my ring if its the large dress one I've taken off to get washing up gloves on.....

When GD had her friends to stay I called into their bedroom to make sure all was well and one asked me where I was going. I replied I was going to bed and she said 'oh, I thought you were going out somewhere!' I suppose I was pretty laden.

I don`t take anything up, except when I`ve done some ironing before bed, then I take it upstairs to put it away.

granjura Fri 26-Sept-14 16:58:10

Nothing either.

rosequartz Fri 26-Sept-14 17:27:14

A glass of water (but DH brings that up as well as his).
Reading specs already upstairs - I have about three pairs around the house and would never remember to take a pair up with me, so one pair lives on the bedside table. Rarely read the Kindle or a book during the day so they are also upstairs.

Starling Fri 26-Sept-14 18:18:15

I only keep my handbag next to the bed when on holiday. Not quite sure of my logic. Some holiday cottages seem less secure.

harrigran Fri 26-Sept-14 19:03:11

I put my handbag away in a cupboard at bedtime, everything else is by the bed. I had a friend who lost both their cars in one night by leaving a bunch of keys on a hall table. Thieves used a rod to lift the keys shock

MargaretX Fri 26-Sept-14 19:11:47

I don't take anything. I can't leave the house wihout going downstairs so my bag and keys are on the hall table. (which is at least 2 metres from the front door) I have a landline phone by the bed but I hope it never rings. that woud mean an emergency.
I have my upstairs book upstairs and it is a detective novel by Ian Rankin , when its finihed it will be replaced immediately as I always read in bed before going to sleep and sometimes during the night as well.

Judthepud2 Fri 26-Sept-14 19:33:47

iPad, glass of water, 2 pairs specs, books, mobile phone, earphones. DH usually follows later, hence earphones and iPad for the nights he keeps me awake with loud snoring!! No handbag - left in secluded space in kitchen.
