Many of you will know i'v recently been to a funeral. It was very traditional. The journey following the hearse R.C service, hymms, readings, followed by the interment. A wake late into the night. It made me change my opnion. I'd always said I didn't care what they did with my body. I now think funerals are for the 'living' not the dead. My uncles grandchildren carried his coffin. That was moving in itself but when I spoke to them one of them told me that he felt very much better now because he'd done one last thing to help his grandad on his last journey. He hadn't wanted to do it initially but was glad he did. Another one told me that it was actually lowing his granddad into the grave that made him except he'd gone and this was his last goodbye. He couldn't believe his feelings because he expected to be beside himself, when in fact it had been a great comfort. Myself and his widow have been to visit the grave a few times. We talk to him, we talk about him when we are there. I think we will find that comforting. So I best start saving for my own. But more importantly I better think what would comfort my family the most. I'll probably ask their opnion. They'll poo poo the conversation at first but I know they will give me a proper answer then I can take it from there. I'd quite like balloons at my funeral though rather than flowers. Rambling again sorry
it's all still a bit raw. But the rambling here helps in some way. Thanks.
