I would like to say that as a Scot, I am embarrassed by the opening of the Games. We are a cultured nation, not that one would know that from that awful opening.

I saw only a little bit of the ceremony on the news but I did wonder where they managed to find so many dancers with two left feet, no sense of rhythm and a weight problem. Perhaps the rest of it was better - I hope so.

Have just watched it on iPlayer. Was bemused. I'm British but it was all sung at such a fast rate I only got a tenth of it! John Barrymore looked ridiculous in his purple suit.Thought it looked like a rather poor school production overall. What the rest of the world thought is anybodys guess. The female comedian, Karen someone? just looked a bit crazy.Sorry Scotland, a poor effort.

Well, I liked it!

Tunnocks teacakes were part of my childhood, but we just called them marshmallows then. And what about Tunnocks Caramel Wafers - often imitated, never surpassed.

I did like him in that Dr. Who spinoff. Torchwood. It was great until the americans got their hands on it. In fact I like his acting but am not sure about him when he's being himself. Maybe he's nicer in real life.

(Did n't know they were made in Scotland though) shock

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 24-Jul-14 21:42:25

I love teacakes! Yum! tbgrin

merlotgran Thu 24-Jul-14 21:37:10

I can't stand those teacakes! tbgrin

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 24-Jul-14 21:35:02

I can't stand him! grin

Well, I've learnt something. Now I know what the 'cake thing' is/was. We thought they were those marshmallow things you could buy years ago. Or can you still?
John Barrowman can wear/ do whatever he wants. He's so beautiful, it doesn't matter.

Julie Fowlis sang the Gaelic song when the baton was in the stadium, she has a beautiful voice, if anyone gets a chance to hear her, its well worth a listen

The white Heather club.

Some nice photos of the Royals (as linked by Merlot ) but what a shame that news organisation doesn't have someone who knows that the Queen is 'her majesty' not 'her royal highness' !

Ana Thu 24-Jul-14 18:35:50

Kenneth McKellar turning in his grave, perhaps? tbgrin

annodomini Thu 24-Jul-14 18:17:48

Rod Stewart looked pretty much alive. I think i must have dreamt hearing the late Andy. Either that or I was being haunted by the ghosts of the White Heather Club. tbgrin

Nonu Thu 24-Jul-14 18:16:22

Is the old boy still ALIVE ?

rosesarered Thu 24-Jul-14 18:15:52

Wait ! I forgot, he's dead. Rod Stewart then? grin

rosesarered Thu 24-Jul-14 18:14:20

Andy Stewart?

annodomini Thu 24-Jul-14 17:47:10

Yes it was shown on TV. Not sure who the other guy was though.

Ana Thu 24-Jul-14 17:44:25

janerowena mentioned the kiss earlier on this thread, Jess, so presumably it was shown on tv.

JessM Thu 24-Jul-14 17:35:05

Didn't show Barrowman snogging another chap on TV then? Photo doing the rounds on twitter. Part of protest re the anti-homosexuality laws in so many of your commonwealth nations I assume?

rosesarered Thu 24-Jul-14 17:24:50

Well, I'm sorry to have missed the opening ceremony as it sounds to have been so bad it's good.I may find it on catch up tv hopefully. Watched the triathlon this afternoon, brilliant, those Brownlee boys are marvellous.

Lona Thu 24-Jul-14 17:20:08

merlot I love that too, Her Maj the photo-bomber! tbgrin

merlotgran Thu 24-Jul-14 17:05:51

The Queen really has lightened up in the last few years.

I love this! tbgrin

I was pleased to see Susan Boyle performing because she has had quite a touching success story. I always worry about her state of mind but last night she seemed very calm and in control.

Sorry The Proclaimers weren't there to perform 500 Miles. It would have really got the crowd going.
