Well so far I was wrong about thunderstorms and it is now bright and sunny here in N Ireland

You have probably mentioned it but perhaps I was on vacation!

I've never understood why people get it wrong. We don't say 'thunder and light-en-ing', do we?

The weather forecast has stated, for the past two days, that the Island would sit slap, bang in the middle of torrential rain and thunderstorms - we've had about 2 tsp of rain and one rumble of thunder, I was really looking forward to a bit of thunder and lightening and the garden being watered without the hose

I was woken by the thunder at 3am this morning. The lightning was sometimes with blue around it and sometimes pink - really weird but amazing to see.

My mother always hated storms but tried not to frighten me and said it was the fairies moving their furniture! Well, they certainly had some heavy furniture to move last night!

You and me both Jings. I have just emailed my sister about the violent thunderstorm we had in the early hours and I said it was just as I imagined the Blitz must have been. Great minds eh?

I'm finding that the sound of night-time thunderstorms, such as we had here last night, now make me think of bombardment, explosions, gunfire. I go under the duvet.

Feel a thunderstorm is not far off here in N Ireland. It has been hot, humid, dark and very windy here all morning. Like Phenix and Culag I love thunder storms bring it on

Still bright and breezy in NE Cheshire. Getting hotter by the minute as the wind dies down. The trees that were thrashing about earlier are now swaying gently.

We had a particularly violent storm last night in Oxfordshire. It is reported that there were over 3,000 flashes of lightning within an hour. It was impossible to count the seconds between it and the thunder to guess the distance as it was continuous. The rain was torrential for a while too. My fault for watering the garden in the evening!
Saffron, my Bengal cat, sat on the bedroom window sill and watched without flinching, while Bugsie was out in it sheltering somewhere then casually returned via the flap for a snack and a snooze. I was then able to get to sleep knowing my 'brood' was happy.

I agree Phoenix, I love thunderstorms.

I lived for a while in the Mid West of USA where we had the most wonderful thunderstorms. Even I would get up in the middle of the night to watch them.

Tornadoes now, that's a different matter

4 lots of thunder no lightening and a few showers here in Melton Mowbray so far - chickened out of golf though.

Just looked at the weather forecast on-line and one of the sites say that we should expect pink lightening tonight - something to do with the Atlas mountains so that should be interesting.

Also they are sort of suggesting that the storms could be mega - so perhaps we ought to batten down the hatches tonight in the South and East! They are waiting to see what happens in France before coming back and reporting it

Hot and humid night here. Stars are still visible. I wouldn't mind a good storm to clear the air.

We're supposed to be having a camping sleepover in our field for DGS3's 14th birthday on Saturday. The forecast is for violent storms!!

I want to postpone it for a week but DD is determined to go ahead. I hope it's all a storm in a teacup because he is SO looking forward to it.

We used to have a lot of thunderstorms in the Fens during the seventies and eighties then they petered out. They have come back with a vengeance this year though. We live between two rivers and DH has always said, (old timer voice) 'If a storm gets trapped between two rivers, it will bounce backwards and forwards all night long'

Saturday night should be fun then.

We have a a few storms here lately, now hot and sticky, I went up into the garden at 2.45 the other morning as it was so sticky. Sil was getting for work don't know if he saw me sitting in the bright moonlight or not.
I had had a couple of tinctures at a reception in Scotland house earlier, and never seem to be able to sleep after that.
SIL probably thinks I am a daft old bat anyway, though he can't say too much as not much of an age difference.
Could do with some rain now, it is 24°.
