I decided to return the iPhone. It was far too gadgety for my simple brain. I'm seldom away from the computer to justify the expense of a fancy bells and braces phone. My present Tesco phone is adequate. Instead, I'm swapping for a small clever camera [a third of the price] that, according to scores of 5* feedback comments, is compact, takes high class pics, with or without flash, that can be uploaded and shared on the net. I know that MacS's Olympus camera does that too. It is also very cumbersome and expensive and it belongs to him. I like the idea of a camera that fits in my bag, can be pointed at the subject...snap and, hey ho...it's all mine

Perhaps you could appoint a deputy soop? Someone who posts regularly and will be here when you are away.

I've keep banging on Sue about the fact that our local council keeps building new houses, which are needed and keep our village lively, but they don't do anything about the cars, either the parking in the village or on the roads around the houses. In fact, our council has built on the main car park in the village

charley that does sound a bit of a headache but these are just ordinary houses. I must confess I live I a new house built on a grotty bit of land near the railway that no-one wanted but the houses are very nice - all different and with largish gardens and enough parking so that there is little parking in the road. Its a mixed development of social, rentals and small detached- these are what are planned but still there are vociferous objections. I worked in housing for a time and I have seen how transformational a good house can be for a family. I'm hoping sense will prevail.

As to the Windfarm well that rages on and on in the local paper each week as I suspect it does everywhere. I'm staying out of that one the debate is very complicated and I don't understand the finer points of the energy questions it raises.

suebailey1 there are many Nimbys and I have to confess that I am one of them. I live in a small cul de sac and all of the houses are made of red brick as is the large block of flats built close by. We now have a monstrosity of a building, blue and yellow tin, literally built over the fence. I have no objections to the purpose of the building, as there is adequate underground car park space, just the awful colour as it does not blend in with red brick.

soop I hope that Rory has recovered from the trauma of being abandoned for so long on Wednesday. He is a lucky boy because he could wander in and out, was well fed and his favourite blanket to hand.

Tara and I love that sort of treatment, could we possibly be picked up at the station please? I am not sure how long we will be staying, I suppose a lot depends on Rory as it is his house.

soop I understand your frustration with people who don't allow other people to hold a contrary view. We must have the most vocal groups ever here about opposing new housing developments which are sorely needed which they acknowledge but then say the proposed development is 'in the wrong place' which means of course near their house or worse where they like to walk their dog. They accost you from their market stall on Saturdays seeking donations for their cause. Didn't like it when I said ' have you got a nice house to live in well lots of people haven't'. I was not popular!!

The very best of luck today Bella. As if you did not have enough going on in your life at present. Another few hours it will be all over, you will be home again and having had something decent to eat you can then wander into soop's kitchen and see what has been left for you. There are some fabulous cooks around and some of the cakes are to die for!

Agus I take Movicol on a regular basis as well but it tastes a lot better than this stuff I have endured today. Yes! I've finished it, hooray! soop is right it is definitely purgative purgatory

As for your DH Soutra I just can't imagine how he copes with having to take a train journey to London after his Moviprep. Kudos to him. I have only a ten minute car journey to hospital tomorrow at 7am, so no complaints on that score.

DH has an annual colonoscopy when they usually remove a polyp and he has low grade dysplasia (?) so I am familiar with Moviprep - but not at first hand! The main problem we have is the timing. He usualy starts his fast at 12 the previous day and takes his first dose at something like 7. Then the next one the following morning but then we have to get to London - by train as they have loos whereas cars in traffic jams don't! His procedure is always in the afternoon and and under sedation and afterwards we head up to somewhere like Gourmet Burger Kitchen or Pizza Express so that he can fill up again before getting the train home.
I don't envy you one little bit, but it has to be worth it.

I completely agree with you soop, unacceptable and uncivilised behaviour. Everyone should be allowed to express their view and I have no time for bully boy tactics.

I know how you feel re your purgative Bella. I have to take a litre of Movicol once a month due to morphine causing a bit of a blockage

Bella ((hugs)) That stuff is lethal. I liken taking it to a trip to purgatory.

I'm hoping that you all are enjoying some early autumn sunshine. The scene through the window is idyllic...the swan family appear to be gliding over the flat calm sea.

Just a wee grumble...our pals in the village had permission to post some No Thanks stuff on a privately owned area in Tarbert...it took a very long time and much effort to do so (tastefully). Within a very short spell of time, the bunting and such had been ripped down and dumped in a heap. I wonder what you think? The first words that popped into my head were unprintable. Mindless and extremely rude, or what? We are all entitled to our point of view. Why is it that a few cannot understand the fact and need to make such a show of being, in their opinion, "right"?

Bella This too shall pass.

Complain as much as you want to, as I expect you agree, the side effects of the necessary preparation are much worse than the procedure itself in this case. (Think very small house without a soundproof bathroom. )

Oh dear Bella - I hope you are managing to keep it down. I've put some of DD's cakes in a special box with a bright ribbon and a tag saying 'Do not eat' so hopefully they will still be there when you get back. (((hugs)))

Thanks for the moomin. I'm on my third litre now (Kleanprep) and it is a struggle to keep it down. I shouldn't be complaining should I, but I swear I won't do it again. They found a polyp last time which is why I have to repeat this performance every three years. Sister and mum both had colon cancer too.

Enjoy your goodies in soop's kitchen and save some for me. I shall be starving by tomorrow afternoon

Bellasnana - haw can you possibly complain about your precolonoscopy prep - is it Moviprep or "the other one"?

Bella, what a rotten time you are having. Not improved by taking that foul "preparation", so some for you as I guess anything else is out of the question.

I've just got in from my walk with the hound. Beautiful warm, sunny Autumn afternoon. Whilst walking along by the river I spotted on an outcrop of river pebbles 3 ducks, 2 cormorants, a heron and half a dozen or so seagulls, seemingly co-existing happily side by side
