Soops kitcheners

In case anybody wondered what I was on when I said "fozi" it was of course meant to be foul - I just don't get on well with using my phone for posting as I can never see the myriad typos!!
Good luck on Wednesday, soop and macsp - a 2/12 hours drive sounds very tiring indeed - who does it? Maybe just about OK at this time of the year if the weather is nice, but I can think of pleasanter reasons for driving to Oban!
We have to go to London and I drive to MK station, then its train to Euston and taxi to the Royal Free. Since I have taken to booking mobility assistance at Euston ( a buggy meets us at the train and takes us round to the taxis) it is an easier journey for both of us as I get very stressed at people barging past and possibly jostling DH with his 2 sticks.
But hey - it's what we do!!

Oh goodness me, Soutra I remember that you have mentioned the journey before. That's some trek. You have to contend with a lot more hassle than we do. The mobility assistance at stations is such a marvellous service. I most certainly could not have managed at the airport (when I went to my son's birthday bash) without the first class assistance I experienced.

Soutra I've been trying to work out what "fozl" was. I thought it was somemsortnof abbreviation. Heaven knows what!
Good luck next week, hope the journey is not too tiring. It's a good idea getting assistance, takes some of the pressure off.

soop I definitely didn't mean to intrude on your precious family time but to find out when earplugs would be necessary and, as Clarendon Park is _ much_ closer to us, I'd like fair warning!! Clarendon Park and Stoneygate are two of my favourite bits of Leicester. Mum had a flat on London Road.

Soutra, DS1 has had some bad experiences having booked assistance. As he is on hisown it is difficult for him to alert anyone but twice he has been forgotten and travelled to the next station where he has been put off and told to wait for the next train back! Luckily, DH was waiting for him both times, realised what had happened and driven to the next stop. When it works it's brilliant though!

kittylester I shall insist on the noise being kept to a reasonable/decent level. If the sun is shining we shall all pile into son's rather smart "sun house" and I shall demand something cool, such as a Pimms. I have to watch my consumption of "fizzy drinks" because my tolerance is low... and I get squiffy on very little... I'm astonished to hear that your son was overlooked during his travels. That must have been most distressing. Thank goodness your husband was there to meet him at a different station than the one intended. Did you make a point of mentioning this to the relevant persons? I hope so.

DS did mention it and to our MP - it hasn't happened since!

I agree, Wednesday will be a long and tiring day- you have a long drive, possibly a wait before MacS is seen and then the trip home again.

kitty I should think not. Sometimes it's right to speak out. As I pedalled away this afternoon, I listened to Johnny Cash. I know that you're a fan. I love his rendition of The Last Thing On My Mind. He has such a soulful voice. It transports me back to when I was a very young lady. Note to Galen...no comment

Charleygirl the appointment is for 10am...I shall buy a newspaper and wait with a coffee or two for MacS to be scanned. The procedure will take approx. an hour. We'll not be given a result, naturally. We shall treat ourselves to a toastie and glass of wine at the Kitchen Garden, one of our favourite cafes. By the time we arrive home, Rory will be "put out"...

soop that is an early start considering the travelling time. Still, the sooner it is over, the better. Such a pity I live so far away because I could cat sit Rory while Tara sleeps peacefully. I agree, he will be put out having been abandoned for so long and if like Tara, he will "have a face on him" when you both return.

An early start for you both then. Despite waking at sparrow fart ever since retiring I nevertheless hate hsving to be out early (before 9) and DH is very slow to get going. Wheteas when I am with DD they hit the ground running at 6.45 and by what I would consider coffee time I feel as if I have put in a full day's work - no, hard labour!

I have just come in to say goodnight.

I did "the deed" tonight and emailed the woman doing a U3A class in knitting and crochet to say that I was so short of time in the week that I could not keep coming which is true. She was very helpful though and I had been going to this group since about April.
But....
The bigger problem was that the group were so sober and proper that I just felt like a fish out of water all the time.

I will just continue going to the previous knitting club with my noisy and irreverent friends at the pub, where we can act like teenagers and laugh raucously.
I can't do proper for very long, my sense of humour is just too quirky and I feel I am about to burst if I have to restrain myself.
Off to bed Nellie it's Monday morning already.

Nellie my experience of U3A was the same and indeed WI so I'm still looking for a group that will put up with me. I play golf as you probably know but golf ladies are very golfy and not often much else unless its bridge which I cant play being common and not brought up to have social graces!! off to golf now with DH- must keep the wobbly bits moving

I am thoroughly enjoying deciding what I want to do in the morning now.
I still wake around 6am, any appointments for either of us are requested for anytime after 11am. The only thing that gets me out of doors very early is my first coffee of the day in the garden after that, I faff about in my goonie. Bliss

I think you made the right decision Nellie. What's the point of being part of a group if you can't just be yourself and have a much needed laugh now and again? Being stiff and minding your p's and q's constantly is exhausting

I'm glad to say that our U3A writing group are a cheerful lot, despite most of them having, at some time over the last three years, been in hospital for something or other. The stuff we write isn't always sober and proper, is frequently funny and irreverent. We have a meal together every so often and have a trip out for lunch and 'people watching'. Can't understand what's so serious about crochet, Nellie! Must be something in the South Cheshire water!

Soutra when I was 60 and managing the wee shop in Fowey, I was awake at 6am...did some housework, drove to just outside the village and walked for half an hour before going in to the shop to check the money/vacuum/put new stock away after ironing it and opening up at 9.30. It was a long day and I did a great deal of window dressing which entailed climbing and heaving of heavy quilts. Sometimes I didn't stop for lunch. If the shop was busy, I stayed put. Oh my...I had so much energy. I cannot make the same claim 13 years on.

Charleygirl If you lived nearby I would most certainly ask you to Rory sit on occasions when we disappear for a little too long for his liking And, yes, we shall most surely be greeted by "that face"...

Nellie Continue to be yourself. I like the Nellie that pops into the kitchen. I am far too quirky to be accepted into most prim and proper organisations/clubs. I simply cannot be bothered to "toe the line"...I suppose that is why us lot get along so well. We may be daft as brushes [speak for yourself, soop] but that's no reason why we cannot relate to each other. I went to a Young Wives' meeting (once) and couldn't wait to escape.

Agus love the word goonie. You have every right and reason to please yourself.

soop that's why I like the kitchen too! I'm definitely not a joiner of staid establishments, and my sense of humour has got me into hot water quite a few times!

Lona We are so alike. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the Kitcheners could manage to spend a cosy afternoon together? I'm certain that we would have great fun.

Took DH for his CT scan today and await the results with some trepidation.

Will be thinking of you on Weds, soop and MacS. Such a long journey for you but hoping with all my heart that all will be well.

Thinking of all kitcheners who have to wait for results of tests. You and your OHs are all having a hard time at the moment. Hoping you achieve peace of mind.

All alone? I suppose I had better get the Marigolds on and tackle this mountain of washing up. So many glasses and cups and plates to do before soop gets back!
