Gaga I'm rather partial to ripe Victoria plums. The variety sold in Tesco [other than Victorias] are tasteless in comparison. When I was a wee girl [watch it, Galen] I used to clamber on to a rather high wall and scrump Victoria plums that just happened to cluster on an overhanging branch. Oh the joy, and the pain of frequently toppling over and scraping my knees and shins. Norty girl!!!

I'm just having a quiet sit in the corner with a cuppa, stuff is still hitting the fan with monotonous regularity and my hair is turning whiter by the day!

Lona It is very distressing to hear you sounding so sad. Of course, what is worse, is knowing that there isn't anything constructive that any of us can do for you. We are here to listen whenever you wish to offload some of your cares. I understand that some problems are far too personal and private to share. No matter, if I can help in any way, you just need to ask.

DH came out of hospital today, very happy to see our little DGD who arrived last Weds from the US with our DD2. They are here until January so it is great having them here.

It seems like there aren't enough hours in the day and I haven't too much time to devote to GN but still check in as often as possible to see how you are all doing.

Thinking of you all especially those who are coping with various troubles.

She is a powerhouse of energy! Yesterday she drove us to Kirkby Lonsdale, all round the Trough of Bowland and we got home at 8.30pm. She was still full of energy and I was flagging! I'm 68 and she's 73!

Oh Lona, if only I could give you a cuddle and we could sit together for a vent over a glass or two of something relaxing. As you say, others in the kitchen know that feeling. There is nothing more draining or frustrating than having to wait it out until others sort out their c...! Try not to dwell on it and look after yourself. I know that is easier said than done but it is something I try to do whenever the stuff hits the fan. I hope it passes soon for you.

Help, is there room for me? There certainly isn't room in our house as DD has moved ALL her stuff from the house she shared with the idiot and put it in the dining room. Climbing boots and crampons are now required to get to the lounge. Or, we can go up 'the back stairs' across the glass corridor and down the front stairs. Tomorrow, she, DH and two men with a van are moving the furniture into storage and I had expected the 'stuff' in my dining room to go as well. But no, it can't go until it's been sorted.

suebailey don't worry as to what this thread is about - not many of us know either! It is for me a haven well away from some of the less pleasant aspects of life or even perish the thought, on GN.

We had a lovely visit to DD SIL and the little ones yesterday. DH has a chest infection so I discouraged him from cuddling Pippa and nobly did his bit for him! Of course she is gorgeous and the boys were sweet although I understand Toby (2 3/4) is kicking off a bit. Not to the baby he loves her and wants to stroke her, but to his parents in general. He is a gorgeous little boy but has a will of iron and can flare up very quickly- he knows his duty as a terrible two but he is very affectionate and cuddly. I love him to bits and am sure that when he grows beyond this stage we will look back and wonder what the fuss as about. DD was absolutely fozl when I had DD2 as I keep reminding her!Will is amazingly patient with him but of course being boys- well they can get a bit boisterous! They have our youngest DD and her DH up this weekend which the boys will adore as Uncle Phill is wonderful with tinies and they idolise him and DD. DH was shattered by the visit although I do all the driving. He has an iron infusion booked for Tuesday at the Royal Free plus bloods in case it turns out that he needs a transfusion and maybe an ultrasound of his spleen (?) and that should make him feel much better.

Thank you soop I don't have anything interesting to say today except that we are trying church again having noticed something missing in our lives since we stopped going several years ago when the C of E went all trendy. The main church here in Melton Mowbray is gorgeous and enormous its was the church where Sir Malcolm Sargant was the organist. Anyway we went today to what we were told was a traditional service and it was lovely. So we will go again.

I do wish we had a "LIKE" emoticon on GN - I would "like" your post suebailey1" as I agree with what you say. On the occasions we have gone to DD's church in Moseley, I have felt the same, but our village church is totally "happy clappy" and while I cannot fault the sincerity of those who run it, it just isn't for me.

kittylester What can I say...your life is certainly far from dull. All that "stuff in your dining room represents a closure for your daughter. It is a good sign of possible new and better beginnings. Take a deep breath and keep reminding yourself that you are fulfilling a necessary role...being a good and supportive Mum. x

Soutra hello again. Lovely to have you visit the kitchen. I can well imagine your joy at being with new baby Pippa...of course she's gorgeous. It's in the genes. As for Toby, he's just finding his place in the new scheme of things. He loves his wee sister, that much is evident. Uncle Phill will be a welcome distraction. It's what aunts and uncles do very well. Your husband did very well to cope with the visit, especially as he has an infection. I shall be thinking of him on Tuesday. Is the hospital fairly close to home? Or, like us, do have a long drive each way? We've the appointment for MacS's scan in Oban on Wednesday. It will take two and half hours to get there.

suebailey1 I'm delighted that you have returned to us lot in the kitchen. You are now a fully fledged Kitchener I rarely have anything of note to discuss...just the ordinary stuff of every day life on the remote west coast of Scotland where we are fortunate enough to live in peace and harmony.
