Dog, not dod!

Galen Sun 17-Aug-14 12:26:01

Unless your DH is very hairy (as my DH was) it's the same as giving it to a dod except for the fact they are more inclined to obey when you say '*STAND STILL!*

I'm staggering in after receiving a huge shock. My lovely brother in law ( widower of my late sister) was booked to visit us next Monday. Today we received an e-mail from him from Carlisle hospital where he was taken after suffering a heart attack whilst walking in Grasmere shock I just can't believe it. He was taken to Carlisle from Keswick hospital with sirens and blue lights flashing and was given an angioplasty. Today is his 62nd birthday so not quite what he had planned for the day, bless him.

Anyway, he isn't allowed to drive or fly for a while, so won't be able to visit us after all sad. You just never know what is around the corner, do you?

Went with DH this a.m. as he had to have an injection to boost his white cells. He will need a daily injection so they showed me how to do it which will avoid having to wait in for a nurse to come every day.
I used to give insulin injections to our dog so I can't think it's very different, except DH won't be rewarded with a 'biscuity bone' afterwards grin

Happy Sunday to you all sunshine

Grannyknot Sat 16-Aug-14 18:24:00

I haven't been in the kitchen for a while - too busy putting my feet up in semi-retirement and/or being a new granny or butting in to conversations in other parts of the house!

Lovely photos smile - glad I wandered into the room where the photo albums are kept grin

soop Sat 16-Aug-14 17:40:33

Thank you for enlightening me, Agus I shall sample a cup when the opportunity arises. We make our coffee from freshly ground beans. I would so love one of those classy gadgets that Galen has.

Charleygirl it hasn't stopped raining since Rory awoke this morning. Apart from visiting his bowl to check for contents, he's been sitting on the mat and gazing into space. We have therefore had to keep the door open throughout his meditations. He has checked his body clock and realises that the savoury aroma drifting under his nose is in fact his Saturday evening chicken treat. He is so hard done by. wink

Enjoy your weekend. Anyone for Montalbano? wink

Before I go...did any of you watch and understand the final episode of The Honourable Woman? I looked at MacS and he looked at me and neither one of us could make head or tail of it.

Agus Sat 16-Aug-14 14:38:01

Yes soop, espresso comes in a small cup, different strengths and add sugar according to taste......nectar grin

Well deserved your GD, worth all the hard work. All the best in her new job.

Charley you're on the list, another coffee mate!

The sound of an espresso being made is music to my ears Galen. Meant to mention before, after the thread when we talked about Russian tea, I have been drinking this too at some point in the day. Very refreshing.

Galen Sat 16-Aug-14 12:59:37

I've one of those clever machines that grind the beans fresh, make expresso noises and voilá coffee!

Charleygirl Sat 16-Aug-14 12:48:42

Agus please put me on the list as I never drink anything but coffee or wine and mid day is a tad early for the white or red stuff! I have a bottle a month or thereabouts so I am not quite an alcoholic yet.

soop I loved the jacket and shoes, they suit you to a T. Do not let Rory near the jacket or like Tara he may claw it, not meaning to, just showing his love.

I am going to make the most of today's sunshine because it will change tomorrow. A friend had her heating on yesterday evening as it was so cold in London.

I have just been to the gym and bumped into a couple of neighbours afterwards so we went to Waitrose for a cup of coffee and a chat.

soop Sat 16-Aug-14 12:23:54

Thank you all for your kind comments re the jacket and shoes. I can't wear them today because it's raining and I do not want them to get wet.

Agus Can you believe that I've never had an espresso coffee? It's the truth. Does it come in a weeny cup and is it taken black and is it bitter? If so, I won't be trying it. I'm enjoying my morning coffee from a colourful mug that bags gave me. So sorry that I cannot share my chocs. They have disappeared...as if by magic.

Lona it is autumnal here. A stiff wind is battering the taller daisies. The waves are white crested. Rory refuses to take a stroll. He's on the mat and watching the world (birds) go by. If Rory could say, 'I'm happy' then he would do so. It's difficult to read his expression...wink

Galen Yes, I wish that all the kitcheners lived within easy reach. We would have such fun.

Brendawymms hmm we do not have Lancaster's or Spitfire fly-bys. Bet the sight brought a lump to your throat. We do see a yellow sea plane fly close by once or twice a day.

finnocchio aren't there some fun wellie boots in the shops? All you need now are some deep puddles to splash around in.

Okay...we grannies/nanas are allowed to boast. Isn't that a fact? Our granddaughter who graduated recently has, according to her mother, "bagged herself a top grade job with Care Quality Commission." Even when at school she looked after her mates and whenever anyone was bullied she was known for her tact and diplomacy. She is a people person and whilst at uni' she earned her spending money by helping out at a Care Home where she needed to assist people with dementia. Right...that's enough of that. Still, as I said...grin

Here's to all the kitcheners wine brew cupcake flowers and sunshine because you are special.

Lona Sat 16-Aug-14 08:38:12

I'm just making a brew if anyone doesn't fancy coffee. It's gloomy at mine, no sunshine and just too autumnal for my liking!
I'll just sit in the window with Rory for a while until I cheer up! grin

Agus Sat 16-Aug-14 08:18:14

I know you and I are the coffee drinkers in here Galen. I'm just about to make my first espresso as I need that kick start in the morning grin. I'll have one ready for you when you pop into the kitchen.

Galen Fri 15-Aug-14 21:16:00

Lovely.
I just wish I lived nearer you people

Crafting Fri 15-Aug-14 20:23:26

Soop what a lovely jacket and shoes. I have a little granddaughter who would have those off you in the blink of an eye even though they wouldn't fit her as she is only 8 (she has a pink fetish) grin

*bags] I really liked your photos. Thank you for sharing.

Been a long day today and I'm just relaxing trying to read the next chapter of a really good book but I've got a glass of wine and trying to stay awake......

Hope you all enjoy the weekend.

Agus Fri 15-Aug-14 19:35:04

Wow soop you look fabulous in that jacket. Proof of a close friendship when bags presented you, quite coincidentally, with a jacket to match the shoes you had ordered which would suit me perfectly as I wear sandshoes/gutties a lot in the summer but could do with a smart pair like yours. Also lovely happy pics of you both.

Thank you for the very welcoming cuppa and some of bags's chocs. A very well timed treat.

Thanks too crafting for your timely offering. I confess to being a greedy Gertie and helped myself to two glasses as I sat on my derrière and relaxed blush Slainte

Here we go again Bella but this time, counting the days for another happy reunion when your DD2 and darling GD arrive. What lovely news and I'm sure DD will be relieved to see her Mum and Dad. Hope you all have a wonderful time together and including your brother in law when he arrives. sunshine

What a perfect display for your lovely gift from soop bags. I like the broomstick, bag and barra tableau grin

thatbags Fri 15-Aug-14 18:21:57

Pic of my witch's bag from soop is now in my profile album.

dustyangel Fri 15-Aug-14 18:06:02

Thank you Brenda, I didn't mean to sound so abrupt when I asked. smile

We used to live near Farnborough Hants. and enjoyed watching the air show from the garden then.

thatbags Fri 15-Aug-14 17:57:57

I'm so glad you like the jacket, soop smile. I should explain to the others that it's not new. I've had it for several years but have only worn it a few times. It's Irish and the outside fabric is hand-woven thick cotton. The lining is also cotton and is just great fun. I could sort of see soop in it very easily but she's right, I didn't know about the pink shoes.

soop also gave me some presents including a witch's bag a picture of which I'll post on my profile anon, and some yummy chocolate. She lent me a book to read too smile

"Thanks, pal!" as they say in Glasgow.

I`d love to see the 2 Lancasters flying together, we don`t get to airshows anymore, they`ve become too expensive.

Brendawymms Fri 15-Aug-14 16:21:43

It's the Eastbourne Airbourne this weekend and the air over my house is being used for the lead in. Lots of planes been overhead including just now the new Eurofighter.

Nonu Fri 15-Aug-14 16:11:21

LOvely SOOP, they match perfectly.

How very kind of BAGS,wonder where she got it. Suppose that is a cheeky question though! Just saying as I would like one .smile

numberplease Fri 15-Aug-14 16:00:26

Love the new jacket and shoes Soop, Bags has excellent taste.
Brenda, I`m so jealous, here am I, living less than12 miles from the home of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, yet we very rarely see them fly over, they must keep flying off in the opposite direction!
A couple just knocked on our back door to ask if we wanted to sell the trailer that`s in our yard. I told them that it`s our daughter`s, not ours, but that I`d ask her when I saw her. Didn`t say that she was sitting in the living room and that she lives here! They`re calling back on Monday to see what her answer is. She does want to sell, but we`re unsure as to how much to ask for it, so we have the weekend to figure something out. They did point out that a new tyre is needed, a fact that we already knew.

dustyangel Fri 15-Aug-14 15:41:31

Lona smile

I like the jacket (and shoes) soop, bags must know you very well.

I like your boggy brae photos bags, you live in a truly beautiful place.

Brenda what is going on? Why did they fly over?

Brendawymms Fri 15-Aug-14 15:34:05

cupcake

Brendawymms Fri 15-Aug-14 15:33:46

Just needed to tell you all that two Lancaster's and two Spitfires flew directly over the house so it's [cupcakes] and wine for all.

Lona Fri 15-Aug-14 14:41:24

You look amazing in that jacket and matching shoes soop, bags must be psychic!
