Bucket List…..

Dorset I want to go on the hill train at Shimla too and I would like to visit the Golden Temple at Amritsar. I hope to go to India for my next significant birthday if finances allow. Apart from the usual family milestones I think most of my list would be travel experiences. I once saw a programme about the Turks and Caicos and always fancied going there. A few years ago we were lucky enough to stay at Sveti Stefan in Montenegro and we would like to return but it has recently been taken over by Amman Resorts and now costs more for a night than we paid for a week!

Not really on the bucket list, but a re-do.

Quite a few years ago I travelled alone in Bolivia and Peru, fascinating, my abiding memory is being on the altiplano, at Salar Uniyu, and seeing the night sky, being so high there is no pollution, the Milky Way is amazing, and the stars/planets so bright.

Did your son see the NL in Norway? I've been told that Tromso is a hot spot for them.

I fancied the Turks and Caicos Islands as well seasider, since I met someone from there who told me about them with tears in his eyes; he was so nostalgic for home!

DS didn't see the NL lights in Norway, not sure he was as far north as Tromso. He did see them in Iceland but not as good as at home over the last few months. he also has a flickr page which contains aurora photos as well as astro-photography.

seasider do go to Amritsar but go with a guide and you won't have to join the 2 hour or more queue! We think we were the only non-Indians there and people were very curious about us but nicely. While you are there go to the border with Pakistan in the evening and watch the ceremony which is held every night of the year, it is wonderful. If you take your passport you will be taken to the VIP area. Go early as a lot of the fun happens beforehand.

jollyg I really want to go to Peru and see all the usual things. We are just thinking about a holiday in the autumn and I looked at Peru but it is not a good time to go so might go in May. If there is anything we must not miss please PM me and let me know. Thanks

Thanks Nonnie, but my focus was seeing the churches by built the german missionaries in bolivia, the missionies, as in the film.., and then move on
the see the mine towns, and altiplano, where I met a couple , the boy lived in our street, he was on a different tour from mine.

I think i knew all the loos in Lima airport, the KLM staff kindly let me rest on the plane on the stopover..

I have checked out the old thread and Yes (or should that be No?) I have still never been across the sea to Ireland. I have however seen Andre Rieu - unfortunately not one of the concerts in the open air but in the horrible Hydro in Glasgow. The music was amazing but the venue spoilt the 'occasion'. Now that DH is recovering, I will be able to fulfil another wish, to cheer the Scotland team at the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. As a bonus it will be in Hampden Park, never been there, AND we will see Kylie Minogue live.

Rose - I cannot remember what first brought the Turks and Caicos to my attention and I do not really do beach holidays but it looks so beautiful and laid back.

There are some lovely photos there harrigran - my Dad used to be a photographer and he'd have loved looking at those. Your son is so lucky to have seen that in the UK! One day, fingers crossed ....

I've been to High Force - and had a picture taken there! My friend framed the one and hung it in his hallway, it looked really nice.

I'm turning 50 soon and so have started a 50 things to do in my 50's. A whole decade to fulfill some ambitions. The list includes trying to get something published, eat oysters (never tried them), eat fish and chips going through Blackpool lights like I used to do as a child, find new friend in a new area, which I think I've done with GN.

I have then put down go to a nudist beach/hotel. Funny how our inhibitions lessen as we get older? I hope I can carry this one out, lol. Just look out for news of hotel guests suddenly screaming as they run away from their digs!

I'd never really heard of a 'bucket list' until recently. The only thing I ever wanted to do was visit Rome. I expect it was all those history lessons and old movies. I honestly never expected to get there. I didn't realise it at the time but I think we were incredibly poor. My husband took me 15 years ago for our 25th wedding anniversary. It was everything I'd wished for. I don't really have any other expectations. I'v done more than I ever thought possible. I learnt to drive. Even after all this time I get a thrill out of it. Iv flown in an airplane . I still get a thrill out of that too. I'v seen the pyramids and explored Cairo, swam in the Red Sea. (This was my sisters ambition. Her miserable -shit- of a husband wouldn't go with her.) i'v been to Athens. Had a girly holiday in New York. I feel so lucky. My parents would never had any of these opportunities. I recently asked my husband if there was anything he'd like to do/own before he got too old. He told me "no" he said he can hardly believe he got married and had children, own a house and a car. He said he'd got more than he ever expected out of life. Perhaps it's best not to expect too much, then you won't be disappointed

Mine is to see The Northern Lights, followed closely by a trip to Machu Pichu......of course there are loads of places I would like to go to but these really are two 'must do's' on my list.....BUT, I am realistic and have been very lucky in my life travelling to many places that others only dream of and if I travel nowhere else, let alone to places on my bucket list, I won't worry too much about it.....my health, my family and my friends are far more important than my 'wants' !!

I don"t really think I have a bucket list.

We take three holidays a year and go where we want, ie the US of A and Mauritius .

I /we have no particular desire to go back packing or hiking to some unusual destination with no home comforts.

So in that sense my bucket list is complete.

But you always go to the same places every year, Nonu! Don't you ever want to venture to more distant lands, see more of the world (or even the UK and its islands)?

I know I do and people have said that to me many a time , however my answer is that there is sooo much to see Stateside. Even though our last trip was our 23 rd we still find much to amaze us . If you haven't been you would find that a bit hard to understand , believe me though it is true

I/we are not,backpacking/hiking people plus I think Mauritius is pretty far away , beyond India, 14 long^ hours in the aircraft.

I have been to all the places I want to go to in UK & it"s Islands.

My bucket list would include learning to play the piano and learning to ride a horse - both just about doable if time allows...

Things to do before you kick the bucket - I don't know where it originated from, but most people know what it means!

Oh, really?! I had no idea it meant that. I thought it just referred to a bucket that you put all your future plans and wishes in.

I've no real desire to travel. I like a holiday in a really nice hotel, I enjoy going on planes, and it's good to be somewhere different. But I just could never be bothered to travel all the way to somewhere like India, or China.
