Bucket List…..

Wally I want to go to Machu Picchu too. Looking for a holiday this autumn and thought now is the time then discovered October is not a good time to go so hope it will be next May. Don't want to leave it too long because DH may not be up to the walking in a few years.

Northern Lights keeps coming up, not just on here, but it had never been on my list. Think I'll add it.

As some have said, it doesn't have to be about travel or anything expensive, it can be about giving time to something, learning something, getting to know someone better, eating oysters or something else you have never tried. There are so many new experiences or even old ones you haven't done for a while. We went to the circus, something neither of us have done since children. You list can be as wide as you like

This thread has made me think. As I have harped on about before on here, I had a miserable childhood and some awful stuff as an adult and tend to feel rather sorry for myself at times However, I have sat on stage with the Beatles, been to Venice four times, been to New York, Paris, Lakes Como and Garda, Corfu, Rhodes and lots of other places. Yesterday I returned from a week in Santorini. (Note to self: Stop whingeing woman). I have never learned to drive or swim which I would like to have done.

Cruises are the way to go!!! My friend who couldn't afford a whole round the world did a 1/4 she flew to Hong Kong and sailed back on the Queen Victoria- and thoroughly enjoyed it. 6 or 7 weeks it was - think of all the clothes you would need though

My desire would be a world cruise but DH gets very seasick! I haven't anything else apart from reaching 70 in reasonable health

Hollydaze Northern Lights was on my bucket list until March when I went to Alta in Norway where I saw them at last. Not a prolonged display due to heavy snow and -20C temperatures but what an experience. The snow was perfect and the scenery magical. Tromsø is also a great place and just spectacular scenery! Go if you can!

Humbertbear The thing is that my mum kept us from having a relationship with my dad all the time they were married, very controlling. So it's only recently that I have managed to form a bond with him and now he's ill. I feel robbed really of having a wonderful relationship with him when I was young but I'll take what I have now and treasure it. x

Ruby lady - I am glad you will have that memory to hold on to. When my dad was first ill I went every evening to watch Cardiff Singer of the World with him and we discussed who should win. I have a wonderful memory of being close to him and sharing our passion for music.

It's not so much about just travelling to places you would like to see but to fulfill the dreams you have held for a lifetime and not managed because of other commitments, like family raising, work etc.

Hence mine is to get something published as I started writing before I had my daughter 27 years ago and have not got round yet to sending anything in.

It also doesn't have to be large expensive things, it's the making time for making things happen that counts. Mind you, that's probably because I'm not well off so have to scale things down but they still mean the world to me.

My dad has dementia, I went and made us some tea and watched one of the England matches with him over World Cup time. Probably something I wont be able to do again. That meant the world to me to do that.

Tegan Bob came to open the Cats Protection League Summer Fayre near Bracknell. I believe it's the first time they've done anything like it but James is very keen to raise funds for the animal charities that have helped him so much.

I've no real desire to travel. I like a holiday in a really nice hotel, I enjoy going on planes, and it's good to be somewhere different. But I just could never be bothered to travel all the way to somewhere like India, or China.

Oh, really?! I had no idea it meant that. I thought it just referred to a bucket that you put all your future plans and wishes in.

Things to do before you kick the bucket - I don't know where it originated from, but most people know what it means!

whats a bucket list, from what Ive read its a list of things to do before you die but why 'bucket', why not, 'dreams list' or, 'maybe things to do'

Why?

My bucket list would include learning to play the piano and learning to ride a horse - both just about doable if time allows...

I know I do and people have said that to me many a time , however my answer is that there is sooo much to see Stateside. Even though our last trip was our 23 rd we still find much to amaze us . If you haven't been you would find that a bit hard to understand , believe me though it is true

I/we are not,backpacking/hiking people plus I think Mauritius is pretty far away , beyond India, 14 long^ hours in the aircraft.

I have been to all the places I want to go to in UK & it"s Islands.

Where do you go for holidays ?
