Commonwealth Games Uniform

I don't want to upset any of the lovely Scottish GN's but I can't help disliking the Commonwealth Games uniform.

I love the tartan and I would appreciate it if anybody could tell me which clan it belongs to or any history belonging to it.

I think it's the pattern and the colour turquoise I find 'shouts' out so loudly.

It just looks so wrong. confused

It's revolting. I have a Scottish friend who is voting against it. I have said that I WILL vote against it, because if they wear it, England will win because they will be too busy laughing at them to get on with the games.

I thought the tartan was designed specifically for the Games... I love the tartan just don't like the nasty turquoise accessories, it looks horrendous.

POGS Fri 11-Jul-14 17:16:17

Thanks for the link janerowena.

I wondered who the woman was on the left when I saw it on t.v. I must admit I thought it was another style of uniform and I wondered where the hell they would use it. I take it now she is the designer so it makes sense.

I think the blokes look so feminine and silly. Not bad looking though blush

ginny Fri 11-Jul-14 17:16:31

Agree, I like the tartan but the overall look is messy and dowdy.

Agus Fri 11-Jul-14 17:28:20

It's hideous. One look at the 'designers' attire should have been a warning!

thatbags Fri 11-Jul-14 19:44:49

Far too late to change the design now. That petition is a waste of time.

janerowena Fri 11-Jul-14 19:46:21

Maybe they could buy a job lot of Dylon, though?

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 11-Jul-14 19:49:07

I think it will fit in with the rest of the parade quite well. I like the women's dresses, and their stoles.

Looks like there is turquoise in the tartan. It's definitely growing on me.

Yikes.

There is another thread 'Should have gone to Specsavers' grin

It's the turquoise shirts .... the tartan is OK

Mind you, I don't think the Australian uniform is anything to boast about

rosequartz Fri 11-Jul-14 20:32:10

(what the Aussies think of it)

For me, the main problem is that the men's shirts look like blouses. If they were in a plain colour they wouldn't be so bad - and not that awful turquoise!

rosequartz Fri 11-Jul-14 21:06:17

Men in turquoise remind me of wotsisname - oh yes, David Icke.

Coolgran65 Fri 11-Jul-14 21:31:20

I love the tartan.... just not the turquoise shirts and dresses which are dreadful. I think there is a pattern on the fabric.

What about if they wore a plain T shirt in a toning shade. A tan colour like the men's socks, or maroon, even a plain white T.

For the ladies what about a plain shift dress in the tartan.

annodomini Fri 11-Jul-14 21:47:22

Those cross-over dresses are frumpy, like a 1950s granny's pinny. I am so sorry for the athletes having to wear those outfits. What a freaky designer.

JessM Fri 11-Jul-14 21:47:46

The brown shoes and knee socks make the chaps look as if they have been wading in cow muck.
The women's dresses look like hospital gowns with a belt.
The whole effect is ghastly. I feel sorry for the athletes in particular Eiligh Child "poster girl" for the games who will have the cameras on her.
What is wrong with having both sexes in the same kit please?

There are some photos online of the models posing with someone who is presumably the designer who has a very distinctive personal style.

The Australian outfits are also interesting...

Can't find any English ones. Looks like Wales have chosen red track suit tops again. Safe.

POGS Fri 11-Jul-14 21:56:51

rosequartz

I like the Malaysian outfits.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 11-Jul-14 22:32:25

POGS Lolol! grin

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 11-Jul-14 22:36:53

Those girls will be able to wear those frocks afterwards. The others won't.

(nods head sagely)

annodomini Fri 11-Jul-14 23:14:15

jingl I cannot imagine any young woman of my acquaintance choosing to wear a dress like that - dowdy design and crude colour. Perhaps the Scottish charity shops will be full of them as soon as the games are over.

janerowena Sat 12-Jul-14 00:30:43

Please God don't let them be the start of a new fashion trend!

Scooter58 Sat 12-Jul-14 01:09:15

Awfull, makes me think she did it deliberately to shock and get attention.

JessM Sat 12-Jul-14 06:35:21

A way to get noticed in the opening ceremony, that's for sure. smile

thatbags Sat 12-Jul-14 12:28:57

That's the whole point, isn't it – getting noticed at the opening ceremony?

Job done.

Why do we need to 'like' them? Rhetorical question. We don't. We just need to be able to notice them easily.

The uniforms are just flags, really.

How sexist to object to men wearing blouse-type shirts! Why shouldn't they? Actually, men's shirts to wear with kilt Scottish men often wear blousy shirts with the kilt, like this. It looks great. Better than stupid ties.

And there's no good reason why men shouldn,t wear turquoise either. It's only a bloody colour!
