This may be long ...
My ex died yesterday morning, we have a daughter and two sons together who are 25, 21 and 17, he was 62. He was suffering from Parkinsons and dementia, and had recently moved into a care home
On Friday night my daughter, who is 25 weeks pregnant got a text from his fiancee saying that the chest infection he had was getting worse and the care home were transferring him to A and E. My daughter decided to go and sit with him while he waited, by the time she got there he was in recussitation and they told her to gather his family. His fiancee didn't come, my dh and I took the boys.
We were sent home at 2am on Saturday morning as nothing was going to happen and I think they were concerned about dd. When we got up in the morning there was a text from the fiancee, saying that she had visited, asked the vicar to give him a blessing and said her goodbyes. She was then going to a family wedding in London about 250 miles away.
The children wanted dh and I nearby, so we stayed in various hospital corridors while they were with their dad. Fiancee is having a couple of days in London and is home this evening after pregnant dd has done all the registering, visiting banks, the care home, solicitor etc. She has asked dd can she be involved in the funeral arrangements and the children have all said that they want me and dh there for support,
it's one of those weird 'grown up' situations, dh and I had no contact for over 12 years and it was quite an acrimonious split but i've stayed good friends with his brother and the rest of his family but he lost touch with them about seven years ago after his mum died. The children don't really know the fiancee as she went out whenever they went round to see their dad but they've lived happily with me and dh for 12 years.
All guidance welcome!
