Exciting morning - I bought a new rotary clothes line! Wow! I really know how to live! Any foray into the garden makes my eyes puff up and I start croaking. Tomorrow our writing group is having a little trip to Buxton. Maybe at a higher altitude there will be less pollen. If only I lived by the sea as you do, soop.

I sneaked into the kitchen to check on Angus during the night crafting. He was out like a light and appears to be one very contented dog.

I'm very impressed with your GD making you a birthday cake Lona. I'm sure there was a lot of love put into the making of it for you, something you can't buy. What an angel!

Hope you had a lovely day out with the family kitty and the 'idiot' didn't put in an appearance. Fortunately our 'idiot' no longer breaks DD's heart, he has done his worst and she is well over it now and just finds him irritating. Hope your DS's scare was a false alarm today and he is well

I had a blether on the phone with DD2's fiancé today, they both live in Australia and this lovely boy is the son I never had and having him in our lives is like a breath of fresh air. He calls me his Scottish 'Mammy' and as much as I would love them both to be living here I know they are healthy and happy so content myself with that. Who knows what the future holds?

I've sneaked in for a crafty cuppa. Been on a course all day and am now home and anxiously awaiting news of GSs eye test this afternoon. I hate this waiting for phone calls and texts - had so much of it over the last few years. I've brought some of DD's banana bread - enjoy.

It's drinkie-poo time again...G&T with ice, slice of lime and tonic. Don't mind if I do.

It has been a lovely sunny day. Rory has barely moved a fraction of an inch since early afternoon when he strolled out to his place under the shade of the hydrangea. Best if I cut his chicken into nibble-size bits and open the door to suggest that he might like his supper. In fact, I can see that he's already prepared himself. Tail upright...plaintiff mews...a face that has to be seen to be believed.

Thank you for your concern regarding DS1. He is washed out today but tells us he is fine.

Back from the thanksgiving which was a lovely service with a super vicar. There were children everywhere and they were even allowed to pull the bell rope to let everyone know that we were thanking God for Lottie's arrival. Lottie beamed and waved at the adoring throng!

We then had a lovely lunch, all prepared by DD2 and the idiot didn't come. Which is sad for DD3 in case someone asks about him. She is still not ready to make the break. She made fabulous cake pops and cupcakes for the party and was highly praise so hopefully that made her feel a little better. I do wish she would tell us what is going on!

Apparently GS is extremely long-sighted, like his mum, and will need to wear specs all the time. He's to go back Wednesday to have drops put in - something to do with making sure the prescription is accurate and often done with children. I do remember from school that quite often children having eye tests had to have atropine drops, so it must be routine. I'm just a worry-guts. DD is really upset. Personally I think he'll both look gorgeous and cope well with specs.

Just dropped in to see how everyone is. soop, I've been thinking of you and McSporran and everyone else who is ill or troubled. Warmest wishes to you all. Dragonfly I'm so glad your grandson has been properly diagnosed. Of course your daughter is upset but when he's older he can use contact lenses, or go for laser treatment if wearing glasses worries him, tell her.
Down here in Wiltshire we have been outside since 7 this morning. I've only popped inside to make meals which we have had outside too. It's only now beginning to cool off. (In case you think we've been lazing around in the sun, we've been gardening hard all day. We cut the hedges, I've done loads of serious weeding and I've finally planted out my cosmos and ammi majus).
Now I've had my shower followed by a Pimms . Can I pour anyone else one?

Sorry Soop I didn't realise that Rory was a real cat. I invented Angus to be a virtual friend for him [as I thought he was a virtual cat!]However, from the above posts, it seems that Angus is becoming more real by the minute.Every time we enter the kitchen now, you can hear his tail going 'thumpthump' on the slate floor. [slate floor? I can't stop inventing things.]
Been a really hot day hasn't it? I get hayfever though and it's very high, and has been for days so not so good.Had to water the whole garden tonight as well as it's tinder dry .Goodnight all.

bohemian I have had a lovely welcome from all the kitcheners and I'm sure you will too. Settle down here with me and Angus and we'll have a glass of or a if you'd rather. We can share a leftover [cake] and Angus can pick up the crumbs ( I think gosh is a lovely word you can use it as much as you like with me)

Had a really busy day today so a quiet sit and chat will suit me fine. Let's see if anyone else pops into the kitchen to check up on Angus. If not, we can take him out for a quick walk before bed

That's what happens when you think you have got the hang of all this technology. You get too confident and make mistakes. I meant not [cake].

My GS who is five has been wearing spectacles for about 18 months. He looks lovely but is very disrespectful towards them. He breaks them or loses lenses regularly DD despairs. He loves his specs now as he has realised that he can see better when he wears them.

Thank you Crafting. At first I thought Angus was/is a little black bull but now I realise he's a dog :-) Oooooh, I like dogs. Thank you also Dragonfly1 for your welcome. I'm all shook up after saying the word gs* word, and confess every now and again I find myself uttering an even more impossibly ageing word - 'blimey', which I used yesterday, so two iffy words in one weekend is, well…not good

We have been trying to sort out the garden; it got neglected when we were away for a week and everything is very behind as we were late sowing seeds. With all the we have had and the watering we have been doing I hope that things will start to grow rapidly.

A couple of my DGN wear spectacles and I must say they look very cute in them. My DN wore them when she was small but has now opted for contact lenses. I am somewhat older than your five year old GS hilda, but am always losing my specs, the trouble is once they are mislaid it is difficult to look for them.

I was going to suggest Hamish as a name for the dog, but Angus is a very good name for a collie as well. I may call in from time to time to take him for a walk as we don't have a dog any more and I need the exercise.

I have to try to deliberately use words like gosh and blimey - instead of quite rude ones that are totally inappropriate in front of the GC! Strangely enough, I was never tempted to use swear words when I was teaching, but the odd 'bugger' has slipped out in front of my own littlies. Gosh is good, boheminan. I shall try to use it more often!

I have a couple of books on my shelf, schoolgirl reading, but they`re over 100 years old. One sentence that had my kids in stitches years ago was "Gosh, Wilfred, you ARE a brick!"
Rosesared, I`m sure Rory won`t hold your tiny error against you, he`s a very forgiving cat.

Mmm, 'gosh' and 'blimey' are the words I frequently use without warning , brick' I haven't used - yet. (Crikey is another one) what the hell does crikey mean???

I'm pretty sure that 'crikey' originated as an alternative to 'Christ!' as an expletive because that was - still is, I believe - blasphemous.

Thanks annodomini i thought that's what it might be. I suppose most mild blasphemes are derived from religious roots, though after exclaiming 'Golly' to a friend on the phone, I think I'd better go and shoot myself. Blimey = blind me? Gosh = ? Golly (won't go there) Crikey - Christ's ? To me fascinating stuff.. (sorry, am I allowed to talk about stuff like this is Soops cosy kitchen?
