Sales have fallen a bit, he was invited to a disciplinary by the owner James Pembroke and said he's too old for that sort of thing.

can I be so ignorant as to what does James Penbroke own and who is Richard Ingrams and what is the 'oldie' that he is editor of Im assuming its a magazine.

Richard Ingrams always seems to me to write so incisively and to see things from a different perspective from everyone else.

This is very regrettable, I'm cancelling my subscription forthwith. I've taken and loved The Oldie since issue one. This so-called 'disciplinary' is an outrage. A pox upon this Pembroke bloke.

Never heard of "The Oldie" until it popped up on here occasionally. The name alone.....

I've never heard of it (or the two men) either - maybe a spot of advertising would help their sales.

We were given a subscription to "The Oldie" this Christmas. We both found it dire, so I take them along to the local library, where people can help themselves to all kinds of magazines. They are always taken, so I'm glad it's being enjoyed.

Snap Ariadne ! terrible name and I thought it would be akin to People's Friend (something I have never read either) but I do like Richard Ingram. Never heard of the Pembroke bloke but, if he has been nasty to Richard, I don't like him!

Actually I find the 'Oldie' more readable than most, at the doctors.....
