I can't remember if this subject has previously been discussed, if so I'm sorry but here goes.
I have a very good friend who very sweetly always sends my two granddaughters , ages 2 and a half and 5 , a book token for their birthdays and Christmas . I was never sure if she had ever received a thank-you. So this weekend whilst visiting the family I asked my daughter-in-law if they'd ever thanked my friend for her gifts. Apparently this isn't done these days. My son said one only thanks people for wedding presents . It's an outdated Victorian habit. Well I'm not Victorian but as a child I do remember sending thank you cards and so did my children. What do you think Gransnetters. are good manners Victorian?

Lets face it, most children are texting friends, sending emails. Why not text or send an email to the giver of gifts.

I send presents to my Godchildren's children and always get thank you letters even though they are now between 14 - 16, even the one whose parents are divorced and he lives with his mother whom I barely know, rather than his father who is my godchild always sends a thank you note.

Presents should ALWAYS be thanked for, otherwise, bye, bye future gifts!!

I don't mind if it is a text, email, phone call, card or letter, just something. Wrote a thank you for a 70th birthday lunch recently but have had no word re the (very nice) framed "Off the leash" cartoon print we gave as pressie to the afore-mentioned birthday boy. sad

I'm afraid to admit that I eventually stop sending presents if I don't get thanked for them!

I stopped sending my nephew money for his birthday and Christmas after I received the following ...........

Dear kate and co
Thanks for money
James

He was old enough to know much better but he didn't need to make any further effort.
