Do not be afraid, be angry--Edward Woodward

rosequartz Tue 08-Apr-14 22:46:44

Probably right Ana! It was something my mother said repeatedly so probably doesn't work if she had to say it so often to reassure me.

Only trying to cheer someone up, didn't mean to cause more upset.

Kiora Tue 08-Apr-14 23:10:06

Another one from a 1950's mum 'See all, hear all and say bugger all'( I'm more polite than my mother she didn't say bugger)

Ana Wed 09-Apr-14 11:27:53

'More upset'? confused

Goodness, it was merely a comment on a well-known saying!

soop Wed 09-Apr-14 11:34:40

Ana smile

My grandma always said "nosy couldn't come so they sent....Gillybob"

or whichever child was nosing into an adult conversation, although admittedly mainly, usually always me.

I say it to my DGD 1 who is rapidly becomming a gossip !

gillybob Wed 09-Apr-14 12:25:36

"If at first you don't succeed..............destroy all evidence that you tried"

Well it works for me. grin

rosequartz Wed 09-Apr-14 14:02:00

Came to the thread late and obviously things had been deleted and pms sent, thought I may have inadvertently caused more whatever!

Anyway, least said soonest mended as tney say smile

gillybob Wed 09-Apr-14 14:13:14

Oooops. I didn't realise there was anything "going on" with this thread. Just came to it late just like rosequartz smile

Ana Wed 09-Apr-14 15:06:36

My post about 'Sticks and Stones' was totally unrelated to anything 'going on' - just my all-time opinion of that saying.

specki4eyes Wed 09-Apr-14 16:35:36

Don't put it down, put it away! (Wish I always followed that one!)

rockgran Wed 09-Apr-14 16:59:22

This too shall pass.

Never wrestle with a pig - you will get dirty, and the pig enjoys it.

I think Mark Twain said 'Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig'.

And also of course 'You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear'.

rosequartz Wed 09-Apr-14 18:32:46

I always believed my mum as she was so wise - but not on that one Ana! It was always said as a comfort.

rosequartz Wed 09-Apr-14 18:33:57

Specki - we have family staying at the moment, I think I will type that out and hang it in every room!

Ana Wed 09-Apr-14 18:50:14

rosequartz, I know it's always meant that way! smile
And when you're very young of course you believe your Mum!

rosequartz Wed 09-Apr-14 19:35:37

Never squat with your spurs on.

Elegran Thu 10-Apr-14 11:18:52

Always pee and puke downwind.

hespian Thu 10-Apr-14 11:52:50

You will never miss what you give to a friend.

specki4eyes Thu 10-Apr-14 13:00:08

rosequartz I know precisely what you mean! With my lot its the shoes! Last time I took photos of all the piles of shoes in the hall - that helped because they started taking them up to their rooms! Result!

janerowena Thu 10-Apr-14 14:18:05

Do as ye would be done by.

rosequartz Thu 10-Apr-14 18:56:40

Never eat yellow snow

(Advice from one of DS' s friends)

rosequartz Thu 10-Apr-14 18:58:35

Specki - They are going to have a big tidy up tomorrow as we are expecting even more guests (and shoes!) at the weekend!

Deedaa Thu 10-Apr-14 21:27:41

It'll all be the same in a hundred years was a favourite of my mother's and has got me out doing many things - because why bother? (Actually that could be my saying grin )
