Also perhaps it might be an idea to think about wether we are looking for sayings or quotes. There is a difference, isn' there?

My Mum used to say 'Waste not want not - clearly means buy a Ford'. . I think it was something to do with an advert up on hoardings before WW2 - but I still say it and haven't got a scooby what it means really!

Yes, good sayings, especially the "do as you would be done by", I would very much go along with that!
