'More upset'? confused

Goodness, it was merely a comment on a well-known saying!

Kiora Tue 08-Apr-14 23:10:06

Another one from a 1950's mum 'See all, hear all and say bugger all'( I'm more polite than my mother she didn't say bugger)

rosequartz Tue 08-Apr-14 22:46:44

Probably right Ana! It was something my mother said repeatedly so probably doesn't work if she had to say it so often to reassure me.

Only trying to cheer someone up, didn't mean to cause more upset.

Ana Tue 08-Apr-14 22:24:58

I know that saying is well-meaning, rosequartz - but it just isn't true! Words can and do hurt us - very much so on occasion.

If at first you don't succeed, failure may be your style.

HollyDaze Tue 08-Apr-14 09:13:25

TEAMWORK...means never having to take all the blame yourself.

Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

I wish it was my youngest granddaughter's. She's always on the go. She says, "I'm bored, what can I do?" Anything you suggest is always boring unless it's something you will do with her. I tell her that a six year old is not allowed to be bored, there's too much to learn in her life, but she does not believe me.

Ana Mon 07-Apr-14 21:08:00

I think it's DH's as well! grin

durhamjen Mon 07-Apr-14 21:05:03

Pittcity, I have a bookmark which says," How beautiful it is to do nothing, and then to rest afterward." Apparently it's a Spanish proverb.

Ana Mon 07-Apr-14 21:00:40

But unless they have super-powers, they wouldn't hear you anyway...hmm

rosesarered Mon 07-Apr-14 20:57:02

Before you say something nasty about a person, always walk a mile in their shoes............ that way you will be a mile away when they hear it, and you will have their shoes!

Elegran Mon 07-Apr-14 17:24:30

HollyDaze The person who smiles in the face of adversity probably also has every kind of insurance policy that is going.

Elegran Mon 07-Apr-14 17:23:19

And Mrs Doasyouwouldbedoneby has a counterpart - Mrs Bedonebyasyoudid.

HollyDaze Mon 07-Apr-14 16:44:41

A person who smiles in the face of adversity...probably has a
scapegoat.

annodomini Mon 07-Apr-14 16:38:33

Mrs Doasyouwouldbedoneby is a character in The Water Babies by Charles Kingsley. It's the 'ethic of reciprocity' or the golden rule.
