My in-laws spent a year on Barra after they retired from London. Wild, windswept and very lonely. My FIL loved it despite being a totally urban person who had lived in European cities all his working life, but MIL (although much more suited to living in the country, being a farmer's daughter) missed friends and family too much so they settled on Mull for a couple of years until illness forced them to move to the mainland. I thought Tobermory was heaven on earth!!
Granny23, we were tempted by Barra as well, this year, but are heading again to Gigha and also to Ypres the week after we come back from there. Can't fit it all in, cost-wise (though we have all the time in the world now)!
100% for me. Brought back fond memories of GD2 showing us round Tobermory and explaining which Balamory character lived in each house. Same GD refused to explore Duart castle as she was suffering a short-term bout of dungeon phobia!
Only 90% for me too also beaten by Duart Castle, and should have known it as a pink version features in 'Balamory'
Lovely pictures to whet the appetite. We are off to Barra again in July but I am so 'homesick' for the place that I spend hours on Google Earth wandering about there
