Who's still here, nearly 3 years on?

I think I was in on the first day-or the next. Went awol after a year or so due to family problems (and if I'm honest, some disillusioment with the way things were going for a while). Popped back from time to time and now more regularly. One day I was told I had to log in but couldn't so re-registered with an amended name. Still enjoy many aspects of GN but miss the nonsense of the early days. Anyone remember the epic that was the first pantomime?

The question is: has Gransnet grown into the site you expected? It's a bit tamer than I imagined it would be but there's nothing wrong with that.

I have been here since June 2011 and have changed my name once - though recognisably - just for fun and because I was feeling my age.

Strange that so many have said that they post less frequently cause I was only thinking about that the other day. Gransnet is still the first forum I check out in the morning and if anything happened to it I'd be devastated but I feel less dependant on it these days. Maybe it's because the friends I've made on here have become the sort of friends [you know the ones] that even if you don't see them for ages you can meet up and it seems like only yesterday you last saw each other. I use the search engine a lot to look up advice about things, knowing that a subject has been discussed previously and I'll get some good info from it. I've also [I think] learned to back off from a topic I'm finding difficult. If anything major happens on the news this is my first port of call to find out what has happened and what peoples opinions are. Have had incredible support on here at times as well and have loved meeting up with gransnetters over the past few years. Only changed my name once but still feel uneasy about doing a profile, mainly because of the way I talk about my family sometimes [ie have a bloomin' good moan] and I'd hate them to know what I've said blush.

Oi jingl ! Having the same user-name could show a lack of imagination

How very dare you! Are you implying that I have a lack of imagination? I designed a set of Olympic Events for cats, I'll have you know!

Elegran Sat 29-Mar-14 11:28:44

Or no wish to hide from what you had posted and reappear as a stranger?

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 29-Mar-14 11:26:58

Having the same user-name could show a lack of imagination. And a fear of walking posting on the wild side. smile

mollie Sat 29-Mar-14 11:23:48

I'm here too - joined May 2011 and with the same screen name.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 29-Mar-14 11:23:11

Me! And I've never strayed far from my original name. smile

And only been banned once! [halo]

kittylester Sat 29-Mar-14 11:23:09

I joined in July 2011 and haven't changed my name.

Although I look a few times a day my posting 'pattern' varies and, apart from Mick's 'good morning' thread, I find I am posting less nowadays.

From a personal point of view, I don't feel I 'know' the people who have joined more recently as well as the 'older' members and I'm not sure whether I post less because of that or the other way round.

I do know that Gransnetter are always there when I need them. So thank you to you all!! flowers

I'm not exactly one of the originals, but I have been here since November '11 so 6mths after it all began. I still have the same name.

I had previously belonged to an over 50's forum and was lost when the site closed down. I'm so glad I found you all smile

I'm still here after joining in the first few days of Gransnet. I changed my name once (used to be Carol) after about 18 months. I think there's quite a lot of us still around. Nice to have something we think is worth sticking to. I look in on Gransnet most days, even if I don't post.

shysal Sat 29-Mar-14 11:10:51

I joined in May 2011, still posting under the same name, always keeping rather under the radar and avoiding anything controversial, as my user name would suggest. I still have a look several times a day. When did GN actually start?

Marelli Sat 29-Mar-14 10:54:42

Elegran, your posts are always wise!

Elegran Sat 29-Mar-14 10:42:47

I am still here, since May 2011, with the same username. I post less than I used to, though some might say that it is still too often.

Marelli Sat 29-Mar-14 10:42:35

I'm here every day, too. I rarely post, though, and I don't really know why this is, as I used to blether away regularly. I don't tend to enter into discussions where I don't feel well-enough informed, though, so it may be that we've had a lot of those over the last few months.

Marelli Sat 29-Mar-14 10:36:10

I used to have a name starting with a colour, phoenix, and only changed it when it dawned on me that I may be recognised by a family member who might want a quick peek at what/who I'd been speaking about shock

harrigran Sat 29-Mar-14 10:30:57

I joined 4 days after Gransnet started and you will find me here most days. I am still using my original name too smile

Anne58 Sat 29-Mar-14 10:28:52

I was here in the beginning, was one of the winners of the very first competitions, and I still have the same user name! (smugemoticon)

Marelli Sat 29-Mar-14 10:27:01

I suppose it's inevitable that some of the original Gransnetters will have fallen away, but who is still here, that joined within the first few months? I joined a couple of months in (changing my name once).
I find I don't post as much now, though, and when I think of it, neither do many of the 'originals', though they do pop up sometimes, so they haven't left altogether. Of course, it's very possible that some of the 'originals' have changed their names and are still posting away merrily - though we can't include jingl in this of course wink)!
