To the left - the cat, who is asleep on her own pouffe, my knitting, an empty tea mug on a little table, behind which is the hearth where stands a vase of wilting flowers (meant to buy more this morning, but forgot). To the right, a footstool where lies my mobile and a leaflet for offers from a supermarket where I have just been and from where I forgot to buy my flowers Too many 'wheres'. blushconfused

During the day I am often seated at the table, sitting on sofa would make me feel guilty! I am surrounded by the following:
Laptop, tablet, printer,Nintendo DS with Brain Training, remote for radio, Loc8tor (to keep tabs on cats), bottle of water, diary, shopping list pad, calorie counting notebook, letter rack with walks and aerobics timetables, lamp, Glucosamine, red krill oil, peppermint oil (rats under shed!), wicker basket containing leads and chargers, and desk tidy for pens etc.
Decorating the edge of the table are reminders on small post-it notes in date order. Only 5 today, usually more.
On the next chair is next-door's three-legged one-eyed cat.

grannyactivist Fri 31-Jan-14 15:25:41

To my left (I'm on the sofa) I have a small oak cabinet that has a metal sculpture (of a cyclist), a silver glass candle jar and a vase of flowers on it. Next to that is the log basket. Nothing but cushions to my right and on the coffee table in front of me a pottery plate (made by my son) that holds nine, as yet unused, tealights, and bowl of fruit. I had a visitor this morning who commented on my tidy house and I immediately wondered if her subtext was 'get a life'. confused

TwiceAsNice Fri 31-Jan-14 15:39:17

To my left glasses case ( glasses on nose) and mobile phone. To my right magazine half read. On stool nearby notebook and pencil case with 2 pens and arrow word book. On floor in case I want it small handbag containing phone cover, purse,2 glasses cases one holding telly glasses wearing reading ones, chequebook, letter for posting which I have forgotten and Sil could have posted when he left the house just now, and paperback book in case I get fed up of the magazine. Did have empty mug from teas as well but managed to put that in the kitchen! Weather awful and NOT going out so need much to amuse me.

TriciaF Fri 31-Jan-14 15:40:56

All I have is a spare pair of specs. I've been obsessive about putting things away for years now.
Sometimes I have a little makeup bag containing tweezers, magnifying mirror, nail scissors etc.

margaretm74 Fri 31-Jan-14 15:50:13

DH's slippers. Why? Also a gremlin which logged me out. Going to fetch my knitting now.

Lona Fri 31-Jan-14 15:56:20

I don't have a chair so on the left side of sofa. On my left is small glass topped table with mat for tea, specs for reading, mobile phone, pump dispenser of Champneys hand lotion that smells exactly like Clarins Eau Dynamisante (sp) (I love it) plus odd bits of peel from last nights clementine.

On the floor is a basket containing OE dictionary, small notebook containing passwords, email addresses etc, Computing made Easy, and a Packard Bell troubleshooting guide (never used), a tv 'watson' and a small tray thing to rest my pc on when it starts to get hot! Oh and a charger for pc.
A plastic toothpick languishes in the bottom of the basket.

On my right is another pair of specs for tv, tv control (I'm in charge!!) and a wool throw.

I need a brew[ now!

whenim64 Fri 31-Jan-14 16:12:28

Phone, iPad, table lamp, cup of tea, manicure set, TV remote, House of Cards DVD, pedometer (as yet unused), letter for posting, headphones (to listen to Paul McKenna putting me in a trance to persuade me to only eat when I'm hungry), a plate with two digestive biscuits (in case I'm a bit peckish! oh dear!), dog (eyeing up the biscuits) grin

soop Fri 31-Jan-14 16:32:27

A good man with a cat on his lap. grin

numberplease Fri 31-Jan-14 16:42:37

Not by my chair, but on the sofa next to me,
Empty glasses case (I`m wearing them)
TV remote,
DVD remote
Telephone handset
My book of the moment
A cushion with cat pictures on it, present from a lovely friend
What`s left of a chocolate orange

soop Fri 31-Jan-14 16:46:26

Any to share, number ? How is Mr number these days?

numberplease Fri 31-Jan-14 17:22:16

There`s a couple of pieces left Soop, I don`t eat much chocolate lately, not like me at all, it seems very sweet these days.
Mr number isn`t too bad , enjoys playing the martyred invalid a bit too much, can`t get him to budge except to go upstairs on his PS3, he`s supposed to exercise to build his strength up in order to have the stoma reversal operation, but he only goes out when he has an appointment at the docs or hospital. Think he needs a rocket up his you know what!!

dustyangel Fri 31-Jan-14 17:34:31

Under the left hand side of sofa
a pile of
Californian and Spanish gardening books
Wildflowers of the Algarve
Wildlife of he Algarve
Birds of Europe
Portuguese/English dictionary.
They are only there because they wont fit in the bookcase in this house. [excuse]
On top
A Christmas cactus
Bowl of fruit
Inside/outside thermometer

On the right
Box of tissues
Packet of tissues that DH was going to put in the car about 10 days ago
Torch
Shopping list
Address book
Pen
Remote control
DH's glasses case
Another torch
Plate and two forks from when DH and I shared an orange an hour ago.

On the top of the table in front of the sofa
A decorative olive dish
Mobile phone
A pile of old newspapers, letters, hospital appointment cards and old catalogues from underneath said table, that DH and I were going to sort out but decided to eat the orange first.
Underneath the table is where it all came from and is now EMPTY [proud emoticon]

Do I get a prize for the most? grin

LizG Fri 31-Jan-14 18:38:52

far too many unfinished knitting projects, zappers variae and an 'I am 60' drink mat, which is a total lie.

margaretm74 Fri 31-Jan-14 19:59:22

Ditto Jen, apart from the mat. Plus glasses case more glasses, leaflet from DH, overflowing magazine rack, oh and more specs! Mat is a "posh" gold one my friend gave me (scratched now). Must get on with knitting.

To the left I have a piano, well, a step or two away, and to the right a sofa.
Between the sofa and my chair (they are at right angles) there is:
my handbag
a wastepaper bin
a pile of Daily Mail 'blank-out' crosswords that my dear (ex) in-laws put by for me each week, all partly done, waiting for inspiration to strike on that one word that will not come to me at the moment
a curio cabinet full of years of memories (nik-naks) and photos, with big photos of my Mum and Dad, my DS's and DGC on top.
In front of me is my Mums old folding table, on which sits my laptop, my cuppa (nearly finished, time for a top-up), my mobile, TV remote, packet of tissues, ashtray and ciggies.
Behind my chair is a bookcase with DVDs, videos of my childhood, lovingly transferred from cine film by my Dad before he died, plus videos and DVDs of my children and grandchildren.

To be honest, I am perfectly surrounded by all the things that matter the most to me in some form or other. The walls have pictures painted by my Mum, and family photos. There's a digital photo frame on top of the piano which has 80 odd photos on a loop of family near and far, and big photos of the DGC look down from the top of the TV cabinet.

Love sitting here relaxing after a long week at work, and just looking around at all the things and people I hold dear smile

Paige Fri 31-Jan-14 21:18:38

dustyangel Fri 31-Jan-14 22:12:41

I'd feel at home with any of you.

Flowerofthewest Fri 31-Jan-14 23:11:57

We are an untidy lot, maybe that's why we all get along so well grin

I forgot to mention - on the table to my left, TV controllers x 2, Small touch lamp given to me by my dear friend Anna, two more books, a magazine, a pack of new socks for myself with little birds on. A handwarmer still in it's packet. To my right on a chest of small drawers, A double 'tulip' lamp with one bulb 'gone' and a bird (give to my DH by daughter a few Christmas's ago) dangling precariously from it's stem. A red candle (still there from Christmas) Two empty glasses and a pink paring knife plus apple core.

May go to bed now before I start clearing up. blush

Okay, I am seriously out of step - AGAIN - and it's not fair! [stamps foot emoticon]
As a child there was a time when our house was extremely disgusterous and everyone else's (it seemed to me at the time) was a model of pristine cleanliness. So I worked jolly hard at dominating and subduing my slovenly gene only to find that in my twilight years [sob] [sob] I am living in a * beautiful, tidy, clean, uncluttered environment and everyone else is living like a slob. What is wrong with you all??
[Goes off to cry in her laundered white handkerchief.]
