Can't sleep - won't sleep - anyone else awake?

hildajenniJ Tue 11-Apr-17 00:07:02

Me too Nina. I usually play scrabble against the computer for a while on my kindle before I settle down. I take ages going to sleep, its always been this way, I don't know why. I'm usually ready to rise at about 08:30. See you all in the morning. Goodnight.

ninathenana Tue 11-Apr-17 06:02:18

Well that didn't happen.smile
I've been tossing and turning since about 3.30 so decided to get up after the usual bathroom trip. Have just made a cuppa.

cornergran Tue 11-Apr-17 06:33:51

Been awake since 5.30. The iPad is losing its appeal! never was a morning person!

cornergran Wed 19-Apr-17 02:46:02

No sleep so far, no reason, it's just how my relationship with sleep is smile. Done some crosswords, had some very cross words with myself but still wide awake. Anyone else having a similar night?

rubylady Sat 22-Apr-17 23:18:22

I feel for you cornergran, it's not nice being awake when you want to be asleep. What sort of things have you tried? Camomile tea? Kalms sleep or similar? Massage chair. If I have twenty minutes in my massage chair in my bedrdom and I tend to fall asleep no problem and sleep better too. No gadgets in my room, well, no internet anyhow.

I'm sure you've tried lots of things, so no good shouting at yourself really, you can't help it.

I'll have some supper in a min, after I have sorted my sore leg and then go upstairs to unwind for half an hour or so.

I hope you are sleeping better tonight. X

have any of you tried Magnesium tablets ,I sleep much better since I started taking them

Jalima1108 Sat 22-Apr-17 23:28:25

they also help to prevent cramp which can wake you up in the night.

I have slept like a baby (I am up every four hours screaming and needing a nappy change)
ruby lol
I am potty trained now so I can take myself to the loo in the night (more than once sometimes)

I'm still awake which is normal for me. A few games if solitare should see me off.
Wishing you all a peaceful nights rest.

I had a very bad night last night, and it did involve bathroom trips. Four of them. All DH's. Which meant I was disturbed briefly on three occasions, but rudely awoken on the fourth by a frantic crashing and banging that I soon realised was DH trying in vain to walk straight through the wardrobe. When I shot up in bed and questioned this behaviour, his answer was "Oh, it's you" (who was he expecting? confused) and "I just need to get through here". He had been out with friends, and I suspect strong drink had been taken. Either that, or he was looking for Narnia.

Bellanonna Sun 23-Apr-17 00:26:19

Sorry but I had to laugh out loud!

morethan2 Sun 23-Apr-17 06:59:37

Maggiemaybe It made me laugh too. I hope he's very apologetic this morning and not like a bear with a sore head. I regularly have a sneaky look at this thread but don't post on it unless I'm also having a period of insomnia because it seems like rubbing salt in a tired wound. It doesn't seem to matter what time I go to bed I wake up with a PING around 5.30. Gone are the days when I literally had to be dragged out of bed. My brain still thinks"oh I can have a lie in in the morning" but my body just won't do it. Still it's better than not being able to get to sleep. Touch wood my sleep has improved over the last few weeks. Less worried about stuff I suppose. My sympathy with those of you still suffering.

ninathenana Sun 23-Apr-17 07:28:17

Maggie many years ago I woke to find H about to relieve himself in the wardrobe shock
He too had been imbibing the night before.

Maggiemaybe Sun 23-Apr-17 11:22:43

Nina shock. He might have wee'd on Aslam!

ninathenana Sun 23-Apr-17 15:00:11

Oh dear, oh dear, strong drink has again been taken here, We are in Vilnius on a city break, and the beer is stronger than any beer I have ever experienced! DH is already asleep and snoring, after several pints, and I am heading that way after two. I have barricaded the wardrobe area with our suitcases....

grannyqueenie Mon 24-Apr-17 22:21:45

Wishing you a peaceful and trouble free night Maggie! The wardrobe barricading sounds like a wise move grin

cornergran Mon 24-Apr-17 23:06:59

Good luck, maggie, hope the barricade holds.

Bellanonna Mon 24-Apr-17 23:09:00

Or preferably that the bladder does !

morethan2 Thu 14-Sept-17 03:49:53

Oh NO. I've reawaken this thread in the hope I haven't reawaken my sleep problem. It's been a very long time since this has happened to me, ping wide awake at three in the morning and unable to get back to sleep. Husband snoring. The whole world asleep apart from me sad Trying not to let my mind wander off in the maudlin direction I'll feel wretched in all day.

MawBroon Thu 14-Sept-17 05:40:05

Afraid so. Paw has needed my help FOUR times tonight between 10.30 and now <sigh> and I have an nternet grocery shop due at 7 - what was I thinking of. But insomnia? No, just short bursts of sleep zzzzz

Imperfect27 Thu 14-Sept-17 06:32:15

A bleary good morning here - I was up at 5:15 - that after not going to bed, I fell asleep on the settee! Lots on my mind too at the moment. Starting to get into gear about looking for a new job, sigh ...

BlueBelle Thu 14-Sept-17 06:51:07

Not the whole world sleeping Morethan I m often awake at 3 or 4 in fact I don't ever seem to need more than 4 or 5 hours
Mawboon it's so different when you are woken unnaturally I feel for you you feel so ill ( well I do) I hope you can catch up in the day

morethan2 Thu 14-Sept-17 09:11:58

MawBroon its much worse for you. At least I can come downstairs and rest. It's harder when your woken up and need to care for somone who needs you. I hope the day isn't too hard. It's just so lonely that time in the morning and I have to force myself not to start worrying. I'm glad I'll never have to look for a job again Imperfect the stress must be horrible. Glad to know I'm not alone BlueBelle what is it that makes a lot of us sleep so little. I was fine until I was in my 50s. Oh well fingers crossed for tonight.

silverlining48 Thu 14-Sept-17 09:17:08

I wonder how i manage to keep on my feet during the day. Watched a prog last night saying how very important sleep is....
If only....
Last night, for example, but could be any night because they are always the same.
i go to bed about 10.30 latest because if i go later than 11.30 i just dont sleep at all, but to return to the subject in hand, last night bed at 10.30, waking at 12.15, then 1.45, 3 am, 4.30' 5.30 ( put radio on - getting into farming today!) then 7 am.
I have a lot going on, a lot to worry about, and thoughts and fears run round my head, try as i might i cant shift them. I have been to my gp and have sleeping tablets but wanted to save them for when i really need them ( dislike taking tablets if can be avoided) maybe this is the time and plan is to take one tonight zzzzzzz

morethan2 Thu 14-Sept-17 23:32:18

I'm off to bed and I've got two gorgeous grandchildren asleep upstairs. Who'll need attention tomorrow. As lovely as you all are I'm hoping I don't come back to this thread tonight.
