Can't sleep - won't sleep - anyone else awake?

WilmaKnickersfit Fri 29-Jul-16 03:55:20

Hiya ruby I wondered if you were here. How are you feeling at the moment? I so need to get to sleep tonight because I have to go out tomorrow (Friday). I can't keep my eyes open but I can't drop off either. Might have a look on YouTube for a whisper video to see if I can drop off to it. In a bad place right now and have no clue what to do about it. If I never woke up again I wouldn't care.

TriciaF Fri 29-Jul-16 14:11:15

I should have come online last night to meet you both.
Still awake at 2am took a Piriton and came down to fill a hot water bottle for one of my aches. Fell asleep and woke again at 4am soaking wet - the hwb had burst shock
Got changed, stripped the bed and slept on the floor until 7am.
I had to go out today too, driving, which I always think is risky when sleep deprived.
4am is a terrible time to be awake.

Wilma, I'd care if you didn't wake up again! Chin up, gal! Xxxxxxxx

cornergran Fri 29-Jul-16 16:02:01

Wilma I know it's the middle of the afternoon but I do hope you come back to this thread to hear we care. That bad place will pass, somehow. It's hard when we don't know how or when, but it will. The night is always the worst time. Echoing wot, chin up gal. Xxxx

I'm so sorry for worrying people. I was feeling very low last night, but I have done something today about getting help. I've had a problem with Depression for years and should have realised earlier that I needed support. Thank you for your kind thoughts. flowers

Sorry about your wet bed TriciaF, that's the last thing you want in the middle of the night.

wot Fri 29-Jul-16 19:06:14

Don't be sorry for worrying people......we care about you. I get depressed too but it always passes. X x

Anyone out there have any experience of shingles and how long it takes to start to feel better ... ?

I think it does vary so much jogging
I have had it twice ; the first time I realised and got some good anti-virals from the GP, the second time I was prescribed the generic version which made me very sick so I had to stop taking them.

A friend complained that the pain along the nerves lingered on for months afterwards, but I found (and DH too) that it didn't linger for that long. It is very nasty while it lasts, feel sorry for your DH.
The shingles jab is more widely available now, I believe, probably well worth it, although I am not allowed to have it unfortunately.

Wilma flowers
I do hope that you receive the help you need
There is some sunshine in between the rain

Ah Wilma its good to hear from you. Middle of the night is a very bad time to feel down and awake. Hope you get the help you need soon. Re you name, do they? Tho I imagine you're still quite young as I believe your mum is my age - and neither she nor I feel old ! I do kid myself a lot ! Wishing you a return to good cheer very soon ?

WilmaKnickersfit Fri 29-Jul-16 23:07:57

Thank you everyone for your kindness. flowers

Bellanonna they fit me because they went a bit baggy! grin You remembered about my Mum! smile

jogging I've also had shingles twice, but the first time was much worse because I didn't go to the doctors quickly enough for anti-viral tablets to be much help (IIRC the tablets are most effective if started within a few days of the rash starting. I was given them anyway and told off!). The pain was dreadful and the pain killers did not take away the pain completely for several weeks. I think it got better when the rash started to heal. I couldn't leave the house because I could only stand a thin t-shirt on my skin because it was so sensitive to pain. I had postherpetic neuralgia for about a year after. The 2nd time I knew what was happening and went to the doctors straight away for the anti-viral tablets and although the rash was in the same place, it was nothing like as bad as the 1st time. Hope your DH starts to feel better soon and he has my full sympathy, as do you. flowers

I've only just seen your post Wilma I'm really sorry to hear you've been feeling so low. Hope you're able to access the support you need to feel you're getting back on track. For most of us it's not easy to admit we just can't fix it for ourselves and it can be hard to seek out help. But you've been brave enough to say on here that it's a struggle just now so that's a step in the right direction flowers for you and anyone who's finding life tough tonight x

rubylady Mon 01-Aug-16 02:36:46

Anyone up tonight? I've been out buying DS his uni stuff so now having a minute to myself, well, my doggie is trying to nick my biscuits, but other than that, a lovely few minutes for me. I hope you are all in Noddy land but if not, I'm here for a natter. X

rubylady Wed 10-Aug-16 05:33:40

I'm having a really bad night. I tried to sleep but couldn't and my trusty friend is lying beside me on the settee, my doggie. I'd be lost without her. I'm willing the days away to my son leaving, rightly or wrongly, I don't care. He said something Monday which really shocked and upset me and I am desperate not to live like this anymore. I keep getting the shakes, mainly in my arms, it's all stress. Roll on but please, I need your support through the next 6 weeks and then I will be free of his manipulation and put downs. I can feel like a person again with my own valid point of view. I know I have gone on about him in the past but it's the final push now, please bear with me, once he has gone I will be a different person. I know because this happened with his father, he was the same and I felt a huge weight lift when I left him. I did fight for 10 years to save the marriage however, but to no avail.

fiorentina51 Wed 10-Aug-16 05:47:14

Chin up Rubylady. You are on the final countdown, just keep looking to the future.
Sounds like your son has picked up some of his father's behaviour. With luck, he should grow up whilst away at uni and turn into a nice human being...eventually. ?

rubylady Wed 10-Aug-16 06:05:43

He's not seen his father since he was 8 years old. Maybe nature rather than nurture?

Anya Wed 10-Aug-16 06:54:13

"Give me a child until he is 7 and I will show you the man.”

Bellanonna Wed 10-Aug-16 12:32:45

Do you think the Jesuits got that right, Anya?
Ruby, not too long now. Hopefully the standing on his own two feet will be the making of him. Nobody to insult or put down. You, with some personal space and freedom at last, with your little dog. What's her/his name? I'm sure life will turn around for you and you may even look forward to that first visit home, with the piles of washing and hopefully see a more appreciative young man. Please come on here at any time and just say whatever is on your mind. Plan a few things to do, have lots to look forward to, no matter how trivial they might seem. !?????

cornergran Thu 11-Aug-16 03:50:40

Struggling tonight, have slept for three hours but now wide awake. Pain levels are huge just now and there is often sleep disruption with flareups. Increased pain killers seem to upset sleeping patterns, not sure why. Plan to read for a bit and try again. It's all quiet here so hoping everyone is having a peaceful night. moon.

Mildred Thu 11-Aug-16 04:13:06

I'm awake too, had the operation on my hand yesterday afternoon, I am awake because I have been asleep most of the evening cornergran hope your book sends you off to sleep. Was my 45th wedding anniversary yesterday, have had better but we are both here so I'm not complaining. Would love a cup of tea but don't want to go downstairs to make it.

cornergran Thu 11-Aug-16 04:28:06

Hope your hand settles soon, Mildred. Can you have an anniversary celebration in a few days? Shame to miss out smile. Having said that could your DH be persuaded to make you that cup of tea as a consolation prize? We live in a bungalow now but when our home was a house we kept a kettle upstairs for tea making. Took milk up each evening 'just in case', only have to walk across the hall now though so no need. Hope you can sleep soon. Back to the book. It's relaxing at least.

Elrel Thu 11-Aug-16 20:48:13

Wish I'd come on here at 3.30 am this morning after the intruder alarm went off. GD didn't wake! Apparently a spider but was too rattled to sleep for a while. At least no neighbours rushed to my defence, the two nearest are respectively on holiday and hard of hearing. I was quite relieved as a few years ago it went off at 12.30 am and three rushed round,
My knee replacement scheduled for tomorrow is postponed for at least 6 weeks because I have a chest infection. Some nights my leg stops me sleeping. Huge sympathy for everyone who isn't getting proper peaceful rest, for any reason.
Ruby, hang on in there, I agree with those who say things will improve. We never know what changes are around the corner. Wondering whether your son is nervous of such a big step and taking it out on you.
All the best!

Bellanonna Thu 11-Aug-16 21:02:22

Oh Eirel I'm so very sorry. What bad luck! You get yourself psyched up for these things and the let down is awful. Hope you get over the chest infection soon.

Elrel Thu 11-Aug-16 21:17:26

Bellanonna. Thanks! The respite means I can do the decluttering I should have done months ago!

rubylady Sat 13-Aug-16 03:35:40

Hi everyone. Thank you for your comments. He probably is worked up but says he will be glad to go and is going to make the worst cup of tea ever when he gets there if anyone asks for one so that he doesn't have to do it again after doing mine for the last 12 years or so! grin Things ok today. Not health wise, that's rubbish, bad night last night and tonight's not faring well neither.

Eirel You need to rest up, get rid of your chest infection, not sorting out the decluttering. It will still be there when you get better from your operation. You come first. flowers

Mildred I hope your hand is improving by the day. You must be out of sorts, not being able to use it. Put your feet up and recover. smile

cornergran I hope your pain has subsided now and you are asleep tonight. You are never on your own, I am always up at this time, even when not on here so just think that somewhere else in this lonely world overnight I am sat watching catch up tv on my own, thinking of who might still be awake. Take care, look after yourself. smile

I think the last few days has been an IBS flare up as my stomach is solid and sore. It then causes my breathing to be worse somehow. I've had to take the tablets to stop the period I was having because I have started to go dizzy through losing too much blood. I've been bleeding for three weeks now. And I keep bursting into tears at the moment too. My DS told me that if I was a horse I'd make a lovely glue stick!

grrrrrrr been awake since two I'll be exhausted for the rest of the day.
