Can't sleep - won't sleep - anyone else awake?

Mildred Sun 08-May-16 06:33:50

I woke at 6, had a goodnight's sleep, I Was in the garden all day yesterday so it must have been the fresh air and all that bending, if I stay in bed I start to "count my worries"' get up and I get more optimistic. So have tidied up the kitchen and having my breakfast watching the birds feed.

BBbevan Sun 08-May-16 19:30:45

Thank you rubylady

rubylady Sun 08-May-16 22:08:26

I agree Mildred problems do come to the fore when we wake up and I go to sleep thinking I should have done more for my dad. I've been seeing a very close friend today who has been given 6 weeks to live. I hope some of you are up for chats while I go through losing another gent out of my life.

Still up, watching Storage Hunters. Have to feed my doggie yet as she has been spark out since we came back from our travels today. Then I'll try to sleep. smile

ninathenana Mon 09-May-16 01:10:54

Laying in bed using my Kindle with H snoring beside me. My usual ritual.
It could be another hour before I'm sleepy.

Elrel Mon 09-May-16 01:25:40

Just gone to bed. 15 minutes ago there was a knock on the door, slight possibility it was a relative in trouble so I called 'who is it?' It was a cheerful but muddled unfamiliar woman asking for her brother who 'lives in this road'.
As she was saying the right first name I directed her to a near neighbour. Then I thought it best to switch off lights and come to bed.

Been willing myself to sleep since 1.00am....useless! now gone 2.00am - still, it's a lovely light night out theremoon

jogginggirl Tue 10-May-16 00:20:21

Still up - waiting for the washing to finish so I can hook out DGD's school socks and place on the boiler so they're dry for tomorrow..... #sleepover #needtobuymoresox #blastfromthepast

Trouble is that I've now had time to be 'awake' - I've started to think about lots of other things ... hmm confused

rubylady Tue 10-May-16 02:22:53

You still up jogginggirl or has sleep caught up with you? I know what you mean about the washing. Every Sunday, 11pm, son says he is doing some washing for the morning and getting a shower. He drives me mad because that means I start my week by staying up til early hours, waiting for it to finish and put on radiators to dry in time. I was thinking earlier of things I am not going to miss when he leaves for uni, this is one of them! grin

harrigran Wed 11-May-16 02:35:04

Coughing keeping me awake and ultimately DH so have come into the study.

Elrel Wed 11-May-16 23:38:17

Harrigran - coughing a bit last night so sympathise, had been coughing violently most of last week. Very little sleep last night as knee painful. Unsure why I'm not tired now.
A peaceful night to everyone still awake. ?

B....y hot flushes and I'm 70 now. When will they stop?

My OH touched my arm and asked if I was ok as I was a bit restless and withdrew his hand quickly as even my arm was sweaty.

rubylady Thu 12-May-16 05:12:41

I'm up, again. Tried to sleep but feel like I have things crawling all over me, like an itching, tingling feeling. Plus had a shaking episode earlier upstairs so came down and made a brew and put tele back on to take my mind off things. It didn't work. Got upset. Ate cake. Feel rubbish. Cake didn't help. Time will heal but it is bloody painful.

BBbevan Thu 12-May-16 05:47:31

The birds singing woke me this morning. Not that I mind. I love that quiet, pale grey time, waiting for the day to start.

NanKate Thu 12-May-16 05:57:52

Morning Rubylady what a truly awful time you are having at present. When things are weighing heavy on my mind I remember the words 'These things will pass' and realise that the bad times don't last forever.

With the help of your GN pals I hope you move onto a happier phase in your life and pretty soon too. flowers

BBbevan I too enjoy the peace and quietness of the early morning.

harrigran Thu 12-May-16 07:23:31

rubylady is it your drugs that cause the skin irritation ?
I am having a week off the chemo because I have had lots of side effects this time, it helps to have a break as it eases the feet but now they are peeling. I got two good hours sleep last night 10-12, DH tucked me up with a hot water bottle but was awake every hour until we finally gave in and had our morning tea at 6am.

BBbevan Thu 12-May-16 08:26:17

I think my favourite song is" when you walk through a storm" from Carousel. Nothing to do with football, but I find the words are really true of life.

harrigran Thu 12-May-16 08:42:31

That is one of my favourites as well BB, I loved the film.

rubylady Fri 13-May-16 01:44:31

I am so sorry harrigan you are going through it, aren't you, poor love. I did get a cool pad for my doggie last summer to keep her cool. It has a stay cool surface and, as she didn't take to it, I used it to put my feet on to cool me down over the warm nights. Maybe you could try one of them. They come in different sizes on ebay or Amazon, dog cool pad. It might be worth a try. Do your feet have sores on? Try Bach rescue remedy cream, it works wonders on sores around our house. flowers

Up late again but a bit calmer I think tonight. No, I don't think it's the medication as I have been taking it for a good while now and this prickly thing only comes on when I am ultra stressed. I was watching Piers Morgan on the Women Who Kill and it taught me to forgive myself for the things I was getting wound up about so I am trying to and to feel a bit better. smile

Love to all and I hope you are all in Noddy land. flowers

boheminan Fri 13-May-16 02:36:57

I'm still awake rubylady, it would be satisfying to believe other GN'rs who were chatting earlier here are now asleep. I've been lying in bed staring at the ceiling for too long, so have come down ready for another sleepless nightsad

rubylady Fri 13-May-16 02:50:01

I know, I've not even tried tonight to go to bed, starting to feel itchy again so I'll wait until it passes. Better to have another brew and think it will come daylight again soon. Only problem is, when we have something planned for the next day or have something that needs to be done. As it is, thankfully, I've nothing on tomorrow (later) so that's ok. As long as I sleep sometime at the moment I don't care. Do you put the tele on when you come back downstairs boheminan ?

By the way, with your name, do you wear bohemian clothes? I wear kaftans, they are beautiful colours and cool and loose fitting when feeling rough. smile

Coolgran65 Fri 13-May-16 04:00:02

3.55am and still awake.
Took a sleeping pill at midnight which clearly isn't working.
Been dealing with this for 20+ years.
In 7 days we fly long haul to visit family and I dread the thought of sleepless nights when not in my own home, though can't wait to see DGC.
The 25 hour journey gets difficult without the ability to sleep.

fiorentina51 Fri 13-May-16 04:15:33

Mind if I join you ladies? I've been awake since about 2pm. Went to bed at 11 and went straight to sleep. I'm resigned to insomnia but it's a b****y nuisance all the same.
DH snoring happily doesn't make me feel any better either!
I'm due up at 7.30 as I'm working today. I hope the little darlings are kind to me.
Brain won't switch off and I keep chewing over family issues. Daughter with depression, son with marital problems and an elderly aunt who can try the patience of a saint. Still, DH and I are both in pretty fine fettle so I'm thankful for that.

boheminan Fri 13-May-16 08:51:44

Good morninghmm I've spent the night dozing off, waking every couple of hours, do have started the day off pretty exhausted.

I know the nature of the beast with this thread is that it's hit and miss, getting to meet someone else unfortunately awake at the same time, but I do find it supportive to read the messages left overnight in the morning.

Does anyone know...(because I have no idea) if it's possible to make this thread one that's permanently shown (like the 'Latest' and 'Guest' posts at the top of the page) without having to sit up all night 'bumping' it so that it doesn't keep falling off the end of the page but is easily accessible in the wee small, or small wee hours of the morning?

harrigran Fri 13-May-16 09:27:44

I slept last night but that was probably because I was exhausted, visitors coming and going all day and then I might have had a glass of champagne or two blush
I still have the virus and my voice is coming and going, the cough remains as bad as ever.
My feet are so much better today, 10 days off the chemo makes a difference. I use cool packs which are suitable for sports injuries and it helps. The foot problem starts with the soles going very red and they look and feel as if they are sunburnt and then after a few days the skin peels off. The same thing happens to my hands but I cope with that because I don't have to walk on my hands. Strangely I have lost my fingerprints, anyone need a robber for the crown jewels grin
