Can't sleep - won't sleep - anyone else awake?

rubylady Fri 13-May-16 23:30:24

Oh life sucks when you've tried to sleep and you can't and then watch Graham Norton and Johnny Depp is on, and James McAvoy too, it's so hard to sit here and have to watch them. grin

Welcome to the insomniacs page Florentina, are you a teacher? I have a rule about being in bed, strange though it is. When I am in bed, I think of it as an island, and on my island I am not allowed to worry about anything but think good thoughts. It works most of the time. Also I don't deal with anything if I can help it until I have had one brew.

My doggie made me laugh this morning. We watch Homes Under the Hammer together for our morning cuddle. I was up today, made a brew, got my water and was walking into the living room when I saw her sat on my foot stool, just waiting and it was 10 am exactly. It really made me laugh. She got a very big cuddle. smile

Ruby - I do like James McAvoy, ever since the first series of Shameless. Went off JD a bit after the Australian 'apology' clip.
Since we had a very gentle earthquake a few years ago and I half awakened, thinking I was was being rocked in a boat, I've always thought of my bed as a boat!
Your dog sounds adorable and great company.
Sweet dreams, everyone. Have a good day tomorrow. ?

Well let's hope this is a one off, here I am wide awake. This pinched nerve or strain under my bust and around my back either woke me up or is stopping me sleeping. Like usual I go off to sleep fine but wake up at the crack of dawn. I'll be exhausted by 9. There's no one here so I'm off to watch somthing on Catch up T.V ps does a cup of tea keep you awake?

Yes rubylady I am/was a teacher. I'm retired now but help out with school visits to my local museum. Your suggestion about your bed being an island sounds a good one. I might try it. ?

I realise I'm not in the 'can't sleep' zone yet - although I am an hour later as I'm in France.... I just feel as though I'm not going to sleep easily tonight - anyone else get that feeling and then manage to go off ...? ??

harrigran Sun 15-May-16 23:22:39

I am still up but will probably sleep tonight because I have had visitors today and that usually tires me.
Hotpoint are coming to sort out the dryer tomorrow but not before 11am so even a lie in if I am lucky.

rubylady Sun 15-May-16 23:46:40

Hi everyone. I'm up and probably will be for a while yet. Got some flea drops from Pets at Home and put them on my doggie earlier. She went a bit mad really, very skitty, running around, not sitting still, out of character. So I've washed it back off and now she is wrapped in a towel, sleeping at the side of me. So I will be up until she is dry and I know she is feeling ok.

I too have things to do tomorrow, but hey ho, she comes first.

jogginggirl I think sometimes the more I think about not being able to sleep, the more I can't sleep so it's a self fullfilling profecy. The best thing is to think about what you are doing soon, or plan something in your mind. Just anything but thinking about not sleeping. That's what I try but what do I know, I'm on here most of the time, on this thread so that works! grin

Nana3 Sun 15-May-16 23:46:53

I had a nap this afternoon so I'm certain to be awake 'til the wee small hours. Also had a few glasses of excellent wine so that won't help. Self inflicted so no sympathy expected.

rubylady Sun 15-May-16 23:53:23

Nana You are allowed a drink or two, so no scorn from me. Jealousy maybe as I don't seem to be able to enjoy a drink these days. You are in good company anyway, chat away. smile

harrigran Mon 16-May-16 00:06:59

I'm still here, I get engrossed reading some of the threads, some interesting ones tonight.
Had to say goodbye to DD tonight, flying back to Brussels tomorrow and then she is off to Denmark. It is hard to keep track she travels that frequently, only be 8 weeks then she visits again.

rubylady Mon 16-May-16 00:13:08

You focus on that then harrigran, your daugher visiting again in 8 weeks. It sounds like you have had a lovely visit from her this time.

I've not got round to the threads yet, busy drying the dog. hmm

Nana3 Mon 16-May-16 00:36:10

Going to try to sleep now. Hope doggy is okay ruby goodnight.
Good night harri .

jogginggirl Mon 16-May-16 01:24:24

Hope you are all in the land of nod by now - I've been reading my book so I'm going to try and sleep now ??

rubylady Mon 16-May-16 01:34:14

Goodnight ladies. Doggie dry now and calmer. I've just took my tablets so off to bed myself in half an hour. See you all tomorrow, take care. flowers

Alea Mon 16-May-16 04:59:14

Nobody?
Some of us have just had a new (very) DGS and I am sitting here with a cup of warm milk listening to the birds!

Marelli Mon 16-May-16 05:37:07

Yep, awake since 4am. Snorer doing his bit as usual and the cat sitting on my bedside table poking about with things.....now a pigeon's started up, too. No chance of getting back to sleep, now!

Marelli Mon 16-May-16 05:39:06

Congratulations, Alea - just re-read your post! Lovely reason to be awake in the early morning. flowers

NanKate Mon 16-May-16 05:52:34

Good morning Marelli and warm congratulations to Alea another little person to love. grin

I have bored the pants off other Gransnetters on a couple of other threads with my recent illness, but suffice it to say I thought I would change my drug routine last night, big mistake, so now I am sitting in bed munching on a Rich area biscuit and glugging tea so that I can take a painkiller ASAP.

Other than that I love this time in the morning, listening to the birds and enjoying the peace and quiet.

Marelli Mon 16-May-16 06:01:45

NanKate, it's a very still morning here, hardly any breeze, from the look of the trees. Not a sound apart from the birds.
The cat has settled down to sleep on the bed.....'Snorer' continues snoring!
Hope your painkillers soon kick in. smile

NanKate Mon 16-May-16 06:08:16

Thanks Marelli I have a snuffler next to me too smile So miss our lovely cats.

I am snuggled up to a warm wheatie and my body is settling down.

Aren't we lucky to be in an age where we can chat over the internet at any time of night or day ? I think Gransnet is a wonderful platform for communication. I do however avoid the political threads as they can get a bit heated.

rubylady Tue 17-May-16 02:17:42

Hi everyone, anyone still up? I have been reading the thread about MN reading the posts on GN. It got my blood boiling a bit so I am now trying to calm down a bit before bed. smile

Nana3 Thu 19-May-16 05:39:10

Been awake since 4.20am, busy day today too.
To get up and make cup of tea or stay in bed and lie here thinking !!!!

NanKate Thu 19-May-16 06:10:51

Morning Nana3 that was my first thought when I woke this morning at 5.40 -getting up or waiting till 6.00. I got up opened all the curtains downstairs, made. My cuppa, sorted my Rich Tea biscuit and now I am back in bed with my book, radio and IPad. The joys of retirement smile

Nana3 Thu 19-May-16 06:16:01

Morning NanKate.
Have emptied dishwasher and washing machine, put dryer on. Back in bed with cuppa too.

chelseababy Thu 19-May-16 06:22:18

I've been awake since 5. Caught up with a couple of editions of Womans Hour and brought a cuppa back to bed. Can't beat the first cup of tea of the day!
