Can't sleep - won't sleep - anyone else awake?

Tegan Sun 20-Apr-14 02:04:41

'Fraid so; travelling oop north in a few hours and I'm trying to get the house tidy before we set off. Thankfully a cup of strong coffee has given me a boost but I've got a problem with a tooth and am hoping it's nothing too bad as I won't be able to see a dentist till I get back. Putting clove oil on it at the moment [yuk]. Haven't packed yet confused...

Hi Tegan. I'm still here, just can't sleep, though the eyes are giving in, so may give in and try lying in bed reading soon... Where oop North are you off to?

boheminan Sun 20-Apr-14 02:20:01

Is the clove oil working? at least you'll be able to set off smelling like a mince pie!!! I'm playing Scrabble online, it's surprising how many late night/early birds there are out here

Tegan try warm salt water mouth washes every few hours. Recommended by my dentist as it kills infection and seems to work for me. Enjoy your trip smile

Going to Bamburgh for a few days. I always end up not sleeping the night before [good job I'm not driving!]. Don't know why I have to tidy the house..it isn't tidy the rest of the time....

Morning!
Wide awake, so came down for a cup of something. My knee replacement is due on Wednesday, ( should have been a fortnight ago) and I am so glad, because the pain is now waking me up! And Theseus has a bit of a cough, so every time I drift off, he wakes me up. whinge, whinge, whinge..

Tegan I completely understand the tidying bit - I have a mental list of things to straighten up before Wednesday, none of which are urgent or they'd have been done already.

Tegan Sun 20-Apr-14 05:11:08

It isn't looking any tidier sad. And I still can't decide which clothes to take [British weather and all that]. My problem is that, when I was married I always used to pack the car, but the S.O. doesn't let me; it's very frustrating cause it's one thing that I'm quite good at [due to years of camping holidays]. Good luck with the knee op!

Good morning - againtbusmile. What a wonderfully transient thread this is, where sometimes people happen to meet up in the wee small hours when it can be very lonely and the 'rest of the world is sleeping'. I hope your toothache eases up Tegan. I'd forgotten about the salt water remedy, but the cleaning/tidying up is a different matter. I Spring clean the house when I feel very anxious, I've heard it's a common habit, so I hope your time in Bamburgh helps you relax. So for me, a tidy home represents a double edged sword.

Hi there....awake again?
Just thought I would say hello...I know about tidying, I reckon that it helps tidy the head up.

I went to bed last night about 11.30 and slept for 40 minutes convinced I had been asleep for ages. Hours later I did get back to sleep but I wonder what would happen if we just "thought" we'd had a good sleep instead of checking with the clock. I felt fine til I realised I had hardly slept at all! I think it dates back to being a new mother when I always checked I had had enough sleep to survive another day. tbuhmm

OMG I remember that. Sometimes I got so exhausted I had hallucinations, seriously.

The night is young - and the day even younger. Anyone else awake?

harrigran Mon 21-Apr-14 00:27:38

Yes, I am here. I always find lots to do on the computer when I should be in bed.

boheminan Mon 21-Apr-14 01:03:02

Hi harrigran - still there? Like you, I've been wandering around. Playing 20 games on Scrabble at the moment - totally hooked on itgrin

Hello ! Anyone else awake? I'm just returning to bed having been up an hour. Had several reasonable nights so can't complain.

Ariadne Wed 23-Apr-14 04:24:42

Morning!
Wide awake now, and the ** birds will start up soon. But the dawn chorus is lovely, to be honest. It's when the seagulls join in that it becomes a racket.
Have to check in to the hospital by 7.30 for my knee replacement; I'm not exactly worried but will glad when it's over....

Greenfinch Wed 23-Apr-14 07:08:51

boheminan, are you sleeping a bit better these days or just not going on GN ?

Kiora Fri 23-May-14 01:35:46

Why oh why can't I sleep..I'm on my holidays generally having a great time. We are on a nostalgic trip to the small village were we met, married and had our first baby. I have had a lovely day. Fell asleep quickly but now wide awake. There is a low hum in the background and now that I have heard it, it keeps getting louder. Just having a nocturnal moan really not expecting a reply ....I want to sleep moon

grannyactivist Fri 23-May-14 02:08:05

I'm staying at my son's flat in a single bed. It's got a nice firm mattress, lovely new bedding and the room is spick and span. Why can't I sleep? Because at home I have a king sized bed all to myself and here I keep banging my arm on the wall or expecting to fall out of bed every time I turn over! I'm not feeling terribly well either and the antibiotics I'm taking don't seem to have kicked in yet. Ho hum - I'm still glad to be here, spending time alone with my lovely son. smile
